“If My Life Wasn’t Funny, It Would Just Be True” - Carrie Fisher
I have had this documentary for years and have viewed it so often. Now, due to Carrie Fisher’s distressing passing on, the film draws even more of a personal feeling from me that makes her wonderful lifetime almost unbelievable to realize. In this wonderfully comic documentary, filmed from her one-woman Broadway act, one could get quite hilariously confused as Carrie takes you on a personal journey through her own life’s satirical family tree ("Hollywood 101") to an answer you must arrive at yourself. The question being, “Are these two related”? This menagerie of people making up the 'tree' is wildly funny as Carrie recounts them all; through the twists, turns, marriages, divorces, children, relationships, missteps, girlfriends, actors, boyfriends and just about every type of condition possible - then Carrie mixes them all up more so - if you can answer her very hysterical question Now… You are far smarter than I.I was left personally awestruck with Carrie’s family tree while she relates to her audience in the most interpersonal way. It is as if she sent you an individual invitation to hear her get real about her life in her perfect dry-witted style and also helps to unscramble the same questions that bewilder her also. She is engaging, funny and goes deep along with having a setting that is glittery, cozy and also filled with interesting visuals to look at, just as her own home is. She was an amazing individual battling an illness but taking it, and the entertainment world, in her stride but doesn't allow one to forget that life gives even those who were born to celebrity their hardships in life; like ECT treatments, for instance. Carrie speaks about the time she suffered while making it funny to lose one's memory. Clearly, Fisher was in pain which at the time didn’t have a decisive diagnosis for whatever “It” was.Carrie was the plucky, sarcastic and fearlessly loyal daughter of America’s Sweetheart Debbie Reynolds and famed crooner Eddie Fisher - until Eddie looked another direction. She switches gears to give some personal information about being a 'princess' herself in "Star Wars" and the marketing of the film that took on a Galaxy of its own. “Wishful Drinking” takes a farcical look at all that was real in Carrie Fisher’s uproarious life. It’s a definite ‘don’t miss’ for all those that love the rapier wit of Carrie Fisher and the Hollywood scene itself and now, all the poignant memories...

Carrie Fisher - a Great Standup Comic
In the wake of great American comediennes such as Lucille Ball and Phyllis Diller, and more recently,Margaret Cho, there is another brilliant writer of comedy and standup comic - Carrie Fisher, whose work is ingenius in it's construction, and perfect in its delivery.Being a child of Hollywood stars was never an easy gig for any kid. Having a mother who sang and danced with the likes of the great Gene Kelly, would have required long hours of rehearsal at the studio and less time at home, and a father who was a crooner trying to make his way in a music scene about to be over run by Rock'n Roll, meant for Carrie and her brother being tended to on occasion by a less than kind grandmother, who believed in "spare the rod & spoil the child".There are no moments in Carrie Fisher's life - even the the downright horrendous - that can't be turned into fodder for her one woman show. A case in point would be the death,in her apartment,of her friend,Greg. Now Greg was a Republican (a fatal condition in itself, according to Ms Fisher)who had the temerity to die alongside Carrie in her bed. At this point Carrie asks her audience (as none of them had had this experience) if there is any question they'd like to ask her ? Finally, a voice calls out "What were you wearing?"For me the highlight of the show was the introduction of the family tree - spread out on a blackboard with photos of all the "main players." We are then given a humorous rundown of Carrie's opinion of the men and women who married (and divorced) her parents at various stages of their lives.Watching Ms Fisher's rapier like wit at work, one is aware of being in the presence of greatness,a survivor, a fine writer, a very funny comedienne, and after listening to her singing Happy Days Are here Again, it was obvious that the singing genes had definately been passed down from Debbie and Eddie.Five ***** do nothing to accurately sum up "Wishful Drinking". I'd like to give it Ten ***** *****.

Good show
The show was good. Watching Carrie in a stand up about her life. My only problem is that Amazon sent me a bootleg of the show. Besides that it was a good show.

Funny as F
Carrie is such a regular girl, comfortable in her own skin to tell the audience exactly how her life has really been. She is super confident and funny. My favorite part is the blackboard lesson “are they related?” I loved hwr mom who she speaks of often and her entire family. I was into this play the moment it first came out. I missed after a few years it so I bought it!. Love Carrie Fisher and miss her too. Grab this if you feel the same!

A funny and poignant exemplification of "Comedy = Tragedy + Time"
The 1-2 punch of Carrie Fisher's and Debbie Reynolds' deaths was a fitting, but tragic, end to a year unprecedented in the number of famous/recognizable people who passed on. And for nerds, Carrie's death cut especially deep. As is the case when a celebrity dies, interest in their work surges for a time as people re-explore (or discover for the first time) why we fell in love with these people in the first place. Like most people, I'm familiar with Carrie Fisher through her work as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, but only recently did I realize that she was a prolific writer. WISHFUL DRINKING was her first directly autobiographical work, based on a life which many people might envy if it weren't for all of the mental illness, drug addiction, etc. And based on this stand-up special, she was also a brilliant comedienne. Essentially a chronological overview of her life, it was filled with hilarious anecdotes and delivered with her trademark self-deprecation. Rarely have laughter and sadness coexisted so closely. And now that she's gone, the ending takes on a new poignancy. If you're a Carrie Fisher fan, I highly recommend checking this out if you haven't already (and her books, too).

Princess Leia and Carrie Fisher
This is by far the BEST DVD that I have ever bought. I saw this show on HBO and I have never laughed so hard in my life! I almost peed my pants during the Hollywood relations and the sex doll. Only the mind of Carrie Fisher could have made this show and brought it to life by sharing personal moments and hysterical comebacks. She had the most talent of any actress I know today, and I never met her but would have loved to. A great show in so many ways, this will have you LYFAO!

Have a Hollywood laugh and tear up at the loss
I've always been a fan of Carrie's sense of humour regarding HER mental health and addiction. Like so many things my life has dished me, humour has gotten me through. In that, Carrie was a fellow traveler.I have no idea way, but I took her and her Mom's death hard. People I never meet, just saw as "stars".The DVD is another of life's moments that I wish I had seen live

Love the way Carrie looks at her life with humor ...
Love the way Carrie looks at her life with humor as a survivor and not as a victim. She has surely come along way - sorry of her death as she had alot more to offer her fans
