We restore and repurpose these vintage Swiss Army rations bags (aka "bread bags") to be used as panniers for your bicycle! They can also be used as handlebar bags for bikes with a long from stem or as saddlebags for motorcycles with a rear rack or attachment bar. Each one has the name of the soldier, the city and the issue date stamped into the leather band that goes across the top. The outer shell, made from a thick waterproof vinyl material and leather trim, cups an inner open top canvas bag that closes with a metal hook and loop. When closed, the top sides remain open enough to allow for tall items like bottles of wine, loaves of bread or stalky produce to extend slightly from the top of the bag. There are two small leather straps on the top that can be attached to the top sides of your bicycle's back rack and we custom make small loop straps connected to the back-side of each bag that can be used to snap onto the lower part of the rack. The 43" shoulder straps are non-detachable but can be adjusted to a smaller size and tucked neatly inside the bag to stay out of the way while you are riding. The inner canvas bag has a front dividing pocket that is great for keeping your phone or keys separate from your other belongings and the main compartment has another divider that perfectly fits a bottle of water or wine. The outer shell measures approx 10 1/2' x 12" with a depth of 3 1/2". The inner canvas bag measures approx 10" x 10". These bags are very heavy duty and were made to last. They may contain minor blemishes, nicks and discolorations given their age and the lives they have lived. We believe that this adds to their vintage character and tells their unique story. By purchasing this pannier, you will own a piece of utilitarian history and you can feel good about giving new life to a bag that would otherwise lie forgotten in a warehouse.
