Q: has anyone figured out how to clean the rubber surface? mine look terrible & the dishwasher only made it look worse.

JB,I use hot soapy water and a rag in the kitchen sink. it takes a while to dry, but it comes out almost like new. the dishwasher ruined my first one, so now I just wash them in the sink.

Q: What are the exact length/width measurements of the interior tray bottom surface? I assume 18"x26" is outer rim dimensions.

What are the inside dimensions of the 12 x 16 tray and of the 14 x 18 tray?

Q: How do bars and restaurants keep these trays 'looking' clean? They function wonderfully, but look awful, and I've had mine only a few weeks.

hand wash with mild soap and water. do NOT put in the dishwasher.

Q: Would this work well as a compact portable refrigerator base drip tray? a tray I can put underneath the refreg so it doesn't damage the rug.

I would say it should work well as long as the feet to the refrigerator are inside the outside edges of the tray, there is solid support (verses cushioned floor) under the tray, and most important, the area of concern about a leak is above the tray.
