AquaClear BioMax is a hollow ceramic cylinder, several ceramic pieces are packaged in a net bag. They're messy & need to be rinsed off before placing the bag in theĀ Aqua Clear 110 Hang-On-Back Power Filter, UL Listed .These BioMax pieces help increase the biological water conditions for your freshwater aquarium while reducing ammonia & nitrite levels. Hagen recommends to replace the BioMax pieces every 3 months; however many people rinse it off in their aquarium water when they perform water changes. I've been told that some people never replace these.(The AquaClear HOB (hang on back) multi-stage filtration system is replaced in stages and one at a time. Never replace the carbon filter, foam filter & biomax pieces at the same time.)By the way, I'm a fan of Hagen aquarium products.

these are amazing.. we swap out the stuff 3 times ...
always use this and the other item for this filter...this type of filter was our fourth and finally works for our turtle...these are amazing..we swap out the stuff 3 times a year

Good quantity
If you own a AquaClear Power Filter, this item already comes in the netting and ready to just throw in the filter. I own an AquaClear 20 and 70, I bought this item to top off the ceramic media in my 20 and 70 and still have more to spare. Fair price, can't complain as ceramic media lasts a very long time.

Quick and easy to use
Quick and easy to use. Fits perfectly in the A/C 110, no mess, no fuss. I started with a generic filter media that didn't fit well, and after 5 weeks my tank hadn't shown any signs of completing its cycle and having beneficial bacteria to deal with the ammonia and nitrites. I added this bag and the Aquaclear brand sponge instead of the generic media I was using. I've had it in for 3 weeks now, and my tank has finally cycled-having the surface area of this has helped the process immensely.
