I am a history buff and particularly like biographies. This one is well written and dives deep. Harriman was to railroads as Morgan was to banking and so on. If you want to know who "built" America (or at least who had the vision required to advance an industry and benefitted most) this is a good book to add to your reading.

I've read Klein's three volume history of the UP, his work on Jay Gould, and now his work on E. H. Harriman.I highly recommend all five if you have an interest in the Union Pacific, rail barons, early industrialists and financiers, early labor relations, or early corporate-government relationships.
