A Solid Football Game for All Ages
I picked up a copy of Backyard Sports Rookie Rush and was immediately drawn into it both from the standpoint of the gameplay as well as the level of fun I had playing it. Let's be clear--it is not like picking up a copy of Madden. It is far more basic. That said, you can still have a good time with it and have many hours of enjoyment before tiring of it and giving back to your kids to play. The game itself is quite basic although by no means super easy. You are playing with your friends in neighborhood parks and backyards and it is just like going back to your youth albeit with probably a bit more scoring than I remember. The game has a limited number of plays on both offense and defense. On offense, you can choose to drop back and pass with about 5 options and you can run the ball a few different ways. On defense, it is about the same. You can drop back in coverage or you can rush. You can even audible which was a surprising addition to the game. What I don't like is that for each play you have to click through a bunch of different selections to choose your play. I think they could have come up with a bit of a faster way to do play selection. There are several game modes including Seasons and Tournaments. Accumulation of Xbox Live Achievements is not super hard. You can easily get about 300 or so achievements without much hard work. Overall a good and fun Xbox title.

Better than Madden or NCAA for younger players
I have a younger son age 6 that is very interested in football. He also loves video games. When we tried to play and older copy of an NCAA football game on the Xbox360 there was a lot of frustration and even a few tears. This game solves that problem. There are only a few plays that are represented by large meaningful pictures that pre-readers/early readers can manage. One of more fun features for him are the power ups that give a moment of super power. It was also nice to see my sports loving but video game hating wife play with him and have fun. There are also female players and teams which is nice for my daughter to see and play with. I'm looking forward to trying out other backyard sports titles.

The Good Ol' Days
I remember when they made these Backyard games for the PC and they were out of this world. Well not only is this game a quick 1,000gamer score but the game brings back memories from my childhood that I love reliving. Whether you are 10 or 31 this game will appeal to the football fan in all of us and give us some excitement.
