I'll preface this by saying I also own the GW-5000U-1JF, commonly thought to be the best square ever made.This watch is special because it pushes the boundaries of technical design by employing of the most advanced materials to produce a watch with a clear focus on sports.To start with, is the stunning carbon fiber strap. As I understand it, they partnered with Mizuno (the sports and athletics manufacturing giant) to engineer a flexible strap utilizing a carbon fiber core. This has the obvious advantage of making it practically unbreakable, which has been a noted problem on the resin straps. However, it also looks stunning in the light, as the tightly knit weave reveals itself, like parts on an exotic car. I love the muted "carbon fiber" printing at the top, but some may take exception to the bright white print that runs along the side. I don't mind it so much as it exudes a quality of high performance sports gear that I think is fitting for such a watch. Some have taken issue with the resulting stiffness of the watch, and I would agree that although the watch is more difficult than rubber to put on, it is actually more comfortable to wear because of the smooth inner lining, and the fact that it is stiff makes it act as a bracelet that conforms to the shape of your wrist.The caseback, caseback screws, and buckle are made from titanium, helping make this the lightest square ever made (with the exception of I think the Baby-G series). It's so light I often forget that I have it on. Some have wondered by Casio didn't make a screw in caseback for this model, but that simply would have added a dramatic increase in weight, for no practical gain in durability, and I think goes against the ethos of this watch, which is: "light, advanced, and high performance".The case surround has a smokey translucency to it and a rather glossy finish that people have complained about, but I don't think there is any other way to execute this if you want a perfect match with the strap. Making the strap and case surround opaque or matte would have detracted from the clarity of viewing the gorgeous carbon weave, and would have been a big mistake ultimately. This is a high performance sports watch, and it isn't ashamed to have some flair and attention drawn to it in my opinion.The front fascia retains the same "mature", conservative color palette of the 5000U lest anyone think you're rocking a toy watch.I've thought long and hard about which square I think is objectively better between this and the 5000U, and I simply can't decide. Each is very special for different reasons, and I wouldn't want to be without either of them.

An excellent watch. Does everything you will ever want and only weighs 45g. Stylish, accurate, what more could you want for the price?

I'm super into G-Shock watches, and if you aren't, you should probably just get a DW5600. Or if you want the solar, get a GW-M5610. But if you're like me and you have those already, this one has a carbon-fibre bracelet that although is a little stiff is ultra light-weight and unlike anything you can buy domestically in the US or Canada. The biggest benefit of this watch is that it has a 3459 module with solar charging and a positive display - meaning you can easily pop it into an aftermarket case so you get 99% of the look of a GMW-B5000-TVA or -1 for a fraction of the price. This particular seller got it to me in Canada via FedEx with total customs fees only amounting to 18% of the purchase price - quite a deal. It had all the Japanese Domestic Market papers, tags, etc., all brand-new as advertised.

Wonderful watch, extremely comfortable. Shipped quickly, apparently from Japan.

Just buy the GW5000U. That’s the right answer to the best daily wear.

The strap catches sunlight and looks dazzling, plus is extremely strong and durable. The watch case is slightly translucent and gives this G-Shock a unique appearance as compared to the GW-5000U-1 and GWM5610U-1. The positive LCD display is clear, sharp, and easy to read.Overall, this watch is light-weight, and comfortable to wear all day. Tough Solar and Atomic Clock time sync enhance the value of the GW-S5600U. I should have bought this model years ago.(Pictured on my 173 mm / 6 and 6/8 inch wrist)

Light weight, slim, and comfortable G-Shock. Noticeably smaller in appearance than my other G's. Glossy piano black so it has a somewhat fancy appearance. The band is carbon fiber and has white writing on it reminding you what it is made from. I quickly stopped noticing it as it was annoying at first. Why Casio, why did you put this on the band?! I like this watch more and more. It is the first square G that I purchased and the least bulky. Very happy with it.

Call me lazy but over the years I’ve gotten to where I prefer digital watches over analog. I don’t have to figure out what hand is pointing to what position on the watch. Also atomic time and solar are a bonus on this watch that looks like a piece of artwork.

I had a square 5610 I gave to a friend. It was good, but missed the special touch you get on higher level watches.This one on the other end is everything you could want. A real gshock made with engineers free to use the best materials available. And they did quite the job.The strap is comfortable for me, I don't find it too stiff. It's stronger than resin while being a blast to look at.The titanium caseback makes this watch rust proof and light.It was made for Japan as all papers with it are Japanese only, but a user manual is available in French and English with a qr code.I should have bought it sooner.If you like high end and want a gshock that won't make you feel like you are compromising when not wearing your other watches...Buy now.

Recently bought a negative display Casio G-Shock which I couldn't get on with. The display was hard to read compared to my previous modle (g-7800). My previous watch lasted 20 years but the strap had finaly given up. I wanted a stronger material so the next one didn't suffer the same fate. As this it wasn't available in my region I opted for aforementioned negative display one. I regretted that so I sorced this one from Amazon. This watch is easy to read, and light. GW-5000U-1JFスクリューバック等の物とAmazon商品ページが分かれたため再度レビュー。こちらのカーボン軽量モデル、誰にも教えてませんが、現状、国産の全ての時計の中で、間違いなく買ってくべき名品です。バンドがカーボンなので硬い、というのは、デメリットではなくメリットだと感じるようになります。突然刀で切りかかって来られたとしても、このバンドで受け止められる、そんな防御力があります。とにかく軽く、ストレスがなく、丈夫で正確な、電波ソーラー。初めてのG-SHOCK、初めての腕時計、何にしても、おすすめします。

I am a carbon fibre freak, the moment I saw this watch , I knew I was going to get it.The carbon band is beautifully made, this alone is well worth the premium. Super light with the titanium back casing.Very well packaged ,a must have for those who like carbon fibre.

I own lots of watches including many G-shocks. I probably have around 15 G-shocks in my collection, almost all are collectible or special in some way. This watch is currently my daily simply because it is incredibly light and, being radio controlled, also perfectly accurate. I do a fair amount of MMA training and this watch is so light I can actually wear it when hitting the heavy bag and it doesn’t even cause any discomfort. I was going to order this JDM watch through eBay, but then you are at the mercy of odd import duties and potential delays. Glad I ordered on Amazon as there were absolutely no issues and the watch arrived quickly, with no additional charges and was clearly brand new. Why almost perfect? Well, the strap to me is a little too spherical and, being carbon fibre is not very soft, so presses slightly on the edges of my wrist. The other potential negative could be seen as a strength and isn’t an issue to me, but worth noting. Due to the incredible lightness and also the gloss black of the case, necessary to blend with the carbon strap, the watch does look and feel like a very cheap fake even though i know it is intentionally light and definitely authentic. I guess it’s just that I am used to the quality of a watch being synonymous with weight and solidity.
