Q: Can the bed be easily taken apart for moving?

My answer would be No. I moved and left it behind because I had no place for it in my new house and I figured it would be a real pain to take it apart because it is so big and heavy.

Q: what type of wood is required is standard pine ok?

Most who build this use Standard Pine (i.e. standard white-wood you can purchase at Home DePot or Lowe's). This type of wood, along with the joint reinforcement design it uses makes for a very strong and sturdy bunk bed.
