DIY Dog Grooming, From Puppy Cuts to Best in Show: Everything You Need to Know, Step by Step

I groomed many many years ago and recently decided to start doing my 2 girls due to having groomer related vet bills! I needed a refresher course and this book was perfect! I'm quite rusty but the girls came out looking really good ( mini poodel and a bichpoo)! The pics with the where to clip/scissor are spot on. His instructions are easy to understand and quite thorough. If you follow what he says and practice a bit of course, you WILL have a pup that looks like it came from a high end salon!

I've been grooming for 15 years. Was thinking about writing a grooming book but this one covers it all for the right price. Remember, this guy is a Hollywood groomer, so being able to bring one to simplicity is important. I do wish he would have covered tail work. Unfortunately, nothing about tails which is usually a tough order for groomers. Knowing the proper cut, scissors and position is important. He left ALL of that out. Bummer! Otherwise good book for beginners.

Beautifully and careful illustrated for the first time home groomers very informative. Easy to read.

This book has been incredibly helpful in grooming our Snorkie (Yorkie mix). When we adopted our dog we were told he would need to be groomed….we just didn’t know how often!!! This dog grows fur like crazy! So we decided to DIY. The book gives very specific directions on a basic utility cut as well as fancy cuts. The first haircuts were pretty funny but we just kept reviewing the book and working at it. Now that we do this on a regular basis our dog is much happier without the extreme long fur-short fur cycle. The book shows the Schnauzer beard cut which was helpful for us. If you are going to DIY get the book and be patient with the process. Our dog loves being groomed now!!

There are so many clear and helpful instructions on every page of this book! I recommend it even if you regularly have your dog groomed professionally. It’s also helpful to know how to keep your puppy clean and healthy between visits.This grooming guide is written with an abundance of love and knowledge of dogs! Highly recommend!

We stopped using our mobile groomer..way too expensive. We decided to do it ourselves. This book told us everything we would need as far as tools. We bought the best clippers we could to do the job right! When we started with the first dog, we had a general idea of what we we're doing. Thanks to this book, we knew what to do, how to do it and in what order. It has instructions for different kinds of cuts and for different types of hair. They leave out nothing...from trimming nails to sanitary cuts to expressing anal glands Yuck! If you're a novice and are going groom your dog yourself, this book is invaluable. Grooming is a skill, one that we've not mastered yet! It is hard work and takes a long time the first few times. But it's worth it to not see my dogs tremble when the groomer shows up. We give them tender loving care and they trust us. I feel close to my dogs when I groom them. My husband and I do it together. He works on one side while I work on the other! I highly recommend getting a grooming table with a rubber mat. And a place to hang a harness. We use the harness that goes around the neck and right before the back legs. Then they can't sit down! We bought our table from Amazon for an extremely good price. The legs fold under for easy storage. So far, it's been a rewarding experience and we're glad we did it! Plus, now we have some extra cash!

Just an amazing book! Really just buy it!I did while trying to learn as fast as I could and I am very very happy about it. You can start with 0 knowledge and lear a lot in just a few hours! I read this in just a few hours and I will keep it forever now!

This is book is A must-have for first time dog owners or those owners that have dogs with long fur. The book is so easy to use and includes A complete visual guide to how to properly cut and maintain your dog's fur. The book is filled with useful tips how to care for your dog, including A special section about using aromatherapy. I could not be happier with this book and would happily recommend this book to anyone who has dogs.

In the future I hope to add a long coated breed which will need a lot more care and attention that the flat coated dogs I have at the moment. While the breeders will give me guidance I wanted to know more about the long coat and what is needed to maintain its and this book is very helpful.Washing the coat is very different to a smooth coat, no quick sponge down and a towel rub, and there is a technique explained for drying, to ensure there are no areas missed, as well as equipment recommended. A lot of things that you may not have thought of come up in the process. As a new comer to a fully coated breed it has given me lots of pointers.

I enjoyed reading this book. I wanted to understand about clipping and It supplied good clear instructions on how to approach this and to care for your dog in many other ways. It also supplied you with many photographs too.

As a groomer I was a little apprehensive about this book but I went in with an open mind as was very pleased. It is written very well and explains things in an easy to understand way for dog owners. I really like the layout of the book and how it transitions through each phase.

Good book lots of advice and good detail in pictures. Haven’t attempted any grooming as yet but hopefully will come in handy for the future.
