The Raccolta Prayers and Devotions Enriched with Indulgences

Love the color of the book and as you open you have so many different occasional prayers this is an outstanding book with much help of ways of praying. A book to keep through the rest of your life journey. Such good practice of devotions. I would recommend to anybody.

Do not pay attention to the watered-downed, modernized, "revised" manual of indulgences. The Vatican 2 church has been trying to do away with the Raccolta to appease the sentiments of the protestants who designed that awful council and have been keeping one of the greatest treasures of the Church away from the truly faithful (when was the last time you heard your confessor speak to you of Indulgences, hmm?). And I was quite annoyed when one stated to me after having received the Raccolta, "Oh, haven't you heard? There's no such thing as Purgatory anymore"! By what authority! Where did this terribly misguided individual hear such an absurd statement?!... from the men occupying the Vatican, straight from the top, that's where! Let me tell you that an established truth does not change just because the influences of time does. Heaven, Hell, Purgatory, the Sacraments, the Saints and the Martyrs... they do not and cannot change! Hence when going through the Raccolta one should be careful not to observe the "new rules" regarding Indulgences (not to worry, this book will tell you exactly how Indulgences (which can neither be sold nor bought) may be obtained. Now the English translation of the Raccolta was published in 1957 by the request of Francis Cardinal Spellman of New York under the Supreme Authority of Pope Pius XII, ex cathedra! The book itself is beautifully hardbound with sewn (not glued) pages. Within are literally thousands of prayers and acts of faith, all easily obtainable, set in a very easy to read typeset. There is no table of contents but turn to the back of the book and you will find the index. Even if you are not seeking out an Indulgence for yourself or a loved one, it is an excellent prayerbook of the highest order. You will not find the Raccolta in your parish bookstore. It is a timeless treasure that has no respect for the machinations of men.

This is one of those books that, once you open its covers, you wonder how you ever managed without it. Every Catholic should own this book, and every devout Roman Catholic will treasure it. I gave two copies as gifts and instantly they become treasured possessions.Many of the prayers include Latin translation, and the degree of indulgence of each prayer is indicated.The profundity and range of these beautiful, historical, indulgenced prayers is impressive. Like  The Catechism of the Council of Trent , The Sources of Catholic Dogma , and  Fundamentals of Catholic Dogma , this volume is MUST HAVE for every Roman Catholic home library. At three times the price, this elegant, handsomely bound book would be a bargain. Another very fine book for Roman Catholics I recommend is  APPROACH TO PENANCE. .*Beyond recommendation* - this spectacular collection of indulgenced devotions spanning the centuries will enrich your soul.PS, Curiously enough, as if the heresies, outrages, sacrileges, and offenses of the post-Conciliar Church of the New Advent were not enough, even this book, according to a priest of the Fraternity of St. Peter, is abrogated courtesy of the heretical Paul VI. Figures. The book itself is quite beautiful, and gives off a vibe that you know you're holding something old. I got this book because of the Latin prayers, and the fact that it represents the traditional Church (rather than the post Vatican II one). This book will certainly be treasured.I did have a little trouble with the order though. When I got the book it wasn't in good condition. They did not pad or wrap the book - just placed it with the other items I'd bought, in a box. It was scratched up, and the binding looked pretty worn and had deep dark marks, and also the corners were worn - some of this damage was probably there before they shipped it. I returned that book through UPS (they came right to my door), and Amazon sent me a replacement. To my horror, as I am something of a perfectionist, the next book wasn't wrapped or padded either, and seemed to have incurred a little wear on the corners. It wasn't a big deal though, so I just got out my metallic bronze sharpie and dabbed it a bit on the edges. It looks pretty nice actually, seems to be part of the design, and I recommend fellow-owners who have the same damage to try this as well.

If you love your Christian faith or know someone who does, do not hesitate to purchase this book. The reprint is flawless, the text is gorgeous, the prefaces, indices, and appendices are ideal, and it looks great to boot. The binding is going to outlast the buyer, most likely, and, as a fan of both Latin and texts printed in both red and black ink, I must admit that this book never, ever leaves my desk. I love this book, and I am so glad I bought it, both for personal pleasure and incalculable spiritual value. Catholic or not, no one can be displeased with the beauty, gravity, and age of these long-honored prayers.

Didn't realize this had larger print, but that isn't a problem. The book physically is sound - no damage or flaws with the cover, spine or printing. The book spiritually is great. Prayers and practices to refer to for days on end!
