Your Own Big Bed

Good
I like how this books takes you through the stages of growing and where you sleep by using animals as well as people.

Great concept
I love that this book doesn't talk about scary things that children think about when moving from a crib to a larger bed. I think some of those books plant scary thoughts in a child's mind that the child didn't even think of. This book keeps my 22 month old son's attention and he loves it. He understands most of the concepts at the beginning of the book, where it discusses the animals hatching from shells and the babies being born. However, some of the language later in the book is too complex for him. For example, he doesn't understand that a "stall" is the bed for the foal. I have to explain this to him every time. While I don't mind explaining, it detracts from the purpose of the book, which is to describe how different animals outgrow their small sleeping areas and move to their own, bigger sleeping areas. All in all a good book. It's much better than many of the alternatives. The tone of this book is also very gentle which lends itself good to reading at bed time and helping a child fall asleep.

A Sweet, More Mature Book
I bought this book for my 28-month-old daughter to help get her excited about moving to a twin bed from her crib. It is a lovely and original book that explains several transitions in the lives of baby animals and a child, like from their being born to taking their first steps to sleeping in their own space. It was especially nice because it wasn't another babyish, superficial or patronizing "Rah-rah you're so big and you're going to LOVE this big change in your life because it's so great!" kind of book like so many kids books are. It was logical and mature and straightforward. It drew parallels from nature to show a child that everything grows and part of growing up is achieving specific milestones (the ultimate milestone of the book, of course, was getting a bed). My daughter loved the book from the first time we read it and now reads it every night in her new big bed. She seems to connect with the story; it seems to make her feel proud of her own big bed. I definitely recommend this book for kids over the age of 2.

a must own
This book portrays moving to a big bed as just part of growing up. It has been perfect for getting our son into his new bed. It's 100% positive, with absolutely no focus on monsters, the dark, or being alone as most books do. I love it! The dialouge is simple, so I do embellish quite a bit. We talk about where the animals live and how big they are getting (and of course link that all back to my kiddo's growth and accomplishments). It doesn't spell out the connection between the animals and the child, which from an educational perspective is perfect (although some reviewers complained about it). It helps your child build a more complex mental schema around bedtime and growing. It's your job as the parent to help them expand upon the book. It's a perfect place to start and I am so glad that we bought this after being so dissapointed with other books about bedtime.

From crib to own bed
It’s a sweet book showing different animals growing from shell to their own sleeping spaces and relating to your child growing into their own bed. For me we bedshare and the baby is in a crib so it doesn’t relate as much to our sleeping arrangement. But hopefully reading about being in his own big bed will get the same eventual results.

Worked great!
I read this story to my almost 2 year old while sitting in her big girl bed. She enjoyed it so much she made me read it a second time. I asked if she wanted to try sleeping in her big girl bed and she said yes. She has now been sleeping in her big girl bed for a week and makes me read her this book every night. The story is about different animals growing up and getting bigger and baby growing up and getting bigger. The pictures are nice. Would recommend.

Nada de monstruos, muy bueno.
Simple pero muy lógico, nada de monstruos y saltar a cama de los papás como otros libros que más les dan ideas a los niños (en caso no piensen en monstruos sino que simplemente no quieren ir a su cama).

Great for a "Big Bed" Transition
As our 20 month-old had recently decided to superman himself out of his crib, we bought this book to help us with a transition to a toddler bed. As his new baby sister had been born just weeks before, we were dreading moving him from his crib (one more thing for him to deal with). We read this book several times a day in the week prior to the switch. The day we put his bed in his room, he ran over, yelled "BIG BED," jumped in and slept through the night. The transistion hasn't been perfect, but whenever it gets tricky, we pull this book out again and it really seems to help. The book itself is beautiful, with gorgeous illustrations. Plus, it really helps little one see that their bed is just another step. Highly recommend!!

Great buy highly reccommended
Great story well written. Begins with baby being born along with some baby animals then goes through milestones like being carried learning to walk getting bigger and ends with sleeping in a big bed. We found it wonderful for prepping our 2 and a half year old for moving out of his cot and into a bed. We read it a couple of times a week for a few weeks before the move. Highly reccommend.

Awesome!
I don't think I can say enough good things about this book! I read this book to my son about a week before I took him out of his crib. He just loved this book. He carried everywhere, I think I read it about 15 times a day. I know this book is why his transition to a big boy bed went so smoothly. I highly recommend it!

Good book for kids transitioning out of the crib
I bought this after reading good reviews here to help my son transition into a real bed. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer!! It’s really well written with good comparisons between animals habits and the child’s. My son loves the book and his new bed!
