Excellent sound, amazing value
Grabbed these a month ago and haven't looked back. Other reviews have matched my experiences well, so I will just stress that at this amazingly low price point, these deliver crisp, highly accurate sound, continue to improve as they "break in" and are sufficient to fill a large room with sound. These are not the boom-box shake-the-room type speakers, nor are they designed to be. They are hi-fidelity and favor no particular genre. That said, the 8" woofers are more than adequate, and I personally see no need to add a subwoofer. At first I was skeptical about the front-facing ports, but although I wish walnut was an option, the well-engineered cabinet structure adds amazing resonance, punch and depth. My only minor complaint is the not-removable cable connecting the right/left speakers, but it is of good quality and long enough for most applications. And I am surprised at the nuances and sounds never before noticed in music I've enjoyed for years on inferior speakers. Another reviewer mentioned that these tend to be quite directional and it is important to place them selectively to maximize the full stereophonic effect. For blasting the walls down with dance or party music, boom-box stereo works fine, but for focused and dedicated listening, you cannot go wrong with these. Highly recommend with no regrets.

These speakers are the truth for under 500
I don't know what these people on here are talking about these speakers bang in my living room and I got the subwoofer and I love it my neighbors be like your music sounds so crisp and super clear and the bass hit hard so I don't know anything about muddy but I play a lot of roots reggae animals out

Great sound
These speakers have a nice, wide response, including both the lower-mid range (rarely adequate without full tower speakers) and the sub range. I do like the option to add a sub, but it's completely unnecessary for me.I use them in my 13'x13' living room. They can get WAY louder than I'm comfortable with, so I never feel like I'm thrashing them.I have them connected to my computer's 3.5mm headphone/line-out port. I keep my computer's volume at about 50% and use the speakers' volume knob for adjustment. There is a VERY faint hum when I'm right next to them with no music playing, but it's too quiet to notice if I'm not paying close attention. They seem to draw a steady 9.2 W throughout the range of what I find comfortable. I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not sure what that means. The bass/treble knobs have a physical range with detents for zero, while the volume knob is continuous with incremental detents like a mouse's scroll wheel. Bass/treble, being mechanical, are remembered when you shut the speakers off, while volume resets. If I had a remote for my computer's volume I'd leave them at their default and use that instead. The speakers really aren't meant to sit on a desk, but that's how I use them. Mostly I listen to them from across the room, but while I'm at my desk they sound just fine turned way down.Someday when I'm rich I'll buy a full set of Edifiers because I can, but right now these are more than adequate!

Bass down to 25hz at reduced db but still audible. impressive for under $500
These do not need a sub for music. i have a speedwoofer 10s but only connect it for movies to get that extra umph movies need. for music i actually like them more then my s3000pros. they actually go deeper to my ears but the 3000pros have more meat to the bass at around 30hz but the s3000pros roll off faster. the R2850db have less bass at 30hz but it just keeps hanging on till about 25hz then nothing. its just very faint at 25hz but its still audible. the sound over all is more open on the R2850db and i like that. i put the s3000 pros in my bedroom and they sound awesome in there. These are under $500 have 8 inch woofers granted not the most powerful 8 inch woofers. the woofers in the swan m5a would crush this one but thats 3 times the price so not really fair. its not even as powerful as the 6.5 inch woofers on the s3000pros but the larger cabinet helps a lot. its very close and i believe its the large cabinet that helps then dig so deep. you get so much value for the money with these and if you want more bass add a sub. it has a 100hz sub out crossover

Muddy bass
But enough that you don't need a seperate sub. Problem is, you you do get a sub, there's 1 vol control for bass, so if you try to crank up your sub, you have no choice but to crank up these muddy sounding ones too.

Love my music again
This is a great buy! The sound quality is excellent, Bluetooth works great and I was able to connect my turntable and cd player directly to the speakers. These speakers have given my music collection new life. I’m hearing instruments in some songs I’ve never noticed before. I highly recommend these beauties. This is fun!

Amazing Speakers for small to mid-sized rooms.
I purchased these speakers when they were on sale for $349.99 for the pair. At that price they were a steal. Excellent sound quality, and good volume. I use the digital optical input from my TV to play music and view TV shows and the sound is super clean. I enjoy a flat response speaker, so not a ton of bass, and these speakers fit the bill perfectly. There are tone adjustment and a volume knobs on the side of the master speaker that make quick adjustments super simple.TLDR: Just buy them!

Amazing sound.
These are the best speaker's I have ever owned. The bass is far better than I imagined it would be. Luckily they aren't small shelf speaker's because you can't get this kind of sound out of a small speaker. I'm not an expert on speaker's but I know what sounds good and these are the best speaker's I have ever heard. I am buying another pair of these speaker's because if two of them can sound this good, I can only imagine how much better four will sound. If you live in an Apartment, you will need to put little rubber cushions under each speaker because the bass will definitely go through the floors to the next Apartment. That's not a complaint, it's a compliment.
