This is a fascinating and sometimes personal look at a difficult, high pressure job. The most revealing aspects often arise from comments made by Detective Kenda and other officers. There are no metrics that can be used to predict with great certainty when cases will be closed. The variation of case closure metrics is driven by many factors that cannot all influenced by investigators. Detectives so often bear the brunt of pressure created by some genuinely evil acts and are all too aware that the only way to relieve the pressure is by doing all they can. Lt. Kenda makes it clear that it is impossible to not to carry your work home with you every day. It is impossible to not worry about the safety of your family. This becomes a potent driving motivation to excel at a difficult job, but by spending the time to do so, will exert more pressure on family life. Family support and patience is critical and must be worked on a regular basis to maintain balance.Homicide Detectives, investigators and law enforcement often work in a world where an appalling absence of consideration and empathy for others is the norm and heinous acts are committed for the most short-sighted, often decadent and worthless goals.

This is my favorite cop show on television because Lt. Joe Kenda is a real cop and the show delves into his cases as he explains his real experiences. It's not a scripted show with fabricated stories. Kenda is the real deal. FYI he was recently a keynote speaker at a law enforcement conference in Panama City. Kenda's the man and although this show isn't perfect and some episodes are more exciting than others, just the fact he put in the work and solved as many heinous crimes as he has in his excellent career, he deserves all the acclaim he is currently getting. Oh and Mr. Kenda is very humble as well as he had to be talked into even doing this show.Be warned though, some of the episodes can be slow as Mr. Kenda and the various officers he worked with throughout his career explain the steps they took to methodically solve these crimes. The pacing of the show may not be for everyone. This is not a scripted television drama. There aren't any high speed chases and exploding cars. However, if you appreciate sound detective work and don't mind watching re-enactments of real crimes, this may be the show for you.

What can I say about this show and this man that hasn't already been said here?! He is AMAZING! It's a little creepy but I secretly wish that he lived near or better yet was my uncle just so I could sit around and hear him tell stories all day! I hope he makes a killing off of these shows so that he and his wife can travel anywhere their hearts desire; he sure deserves that and more for the service he has provided to society. I LOVE this show!!!!!!

not a fantasy.

I really love this guy. He would've been perfect as Sam Spade. But he's as real as it gets. I love his metaphors and one-liners. His stories are really interesting and his investigative techniques are impressive. Also, there's a good balance between forensics and criminal investigations. (And, if you have to get murdered, I would recommend moving to Colorado Springs.)
