Worth the $$$$..probably one of the best 1 piece water closets ever made in my opinion

Worth every penny! Had it I professionally installed which is advisable.
Love the attention to detail in the styling! Beautiful and comfortable. Very quiet and great low water use. I think the lid is nice the way it fits the toilet. Yes, it is plastic but you could not have a lid fit the unit like this and it not be plastic. I think the lid is very nice and I do not agree with one prior review that the lid is cheap. I think the whole thing is very well done and I’m very pleased with my purchase! Would highly recommend!

Makes LOUD clanking noise when flushed
We had three of these toilets that we liked very much in our former home, so purchasing five more of them for our "new" house from Amazon was one of the first things I did when we moved in - only to learn from the folks retiling the floors that we had to wait for them to finish retiling ALL of the bathrooms before ANY of the toilets could be installed, which of course, was way past the "return" period. So it was months later that I discovered that 1 of the 5 makes a LOUD (wake the dead) clanking noise whenever flushed - the other four also make clanking noises (louder than the flush), but they're livable. Over the past several months I've hired three separate plumbers to try to resolve the problem: when flushed, the "Kohler canister flush valve" (yellow-topped with a black canister around it), is forced up with so much force, the canister bangs into the toilet lid. The first plumber attached pads to the lid (they just fell off and floated in the tank); the second plumber attached a piece of styrofoam to the top of the canister, but that precluded a decent flush. And the most professional plumber, who came 2 days ago, said the problem was with the Kohler manufacture: the base of the tank is too high for the length of the canister, so back to more felt pads to lift the tank lid - but now water splashes out. The plumber's second option was to replace the (nearly new) toilet. I'm hoping someone from Kohler will read this and respond with a solution that works. as I can't believe we have the corner on San Rafaels with this problem.

Highly recommended
It is a gorgeous toilet well as gorgeous as a toilet could be. I would have given it 5 stars but it does have a bit of a loud flush. That being said.... it uses very little water and flushes whatever you put in it down with no problem!

Great toilet, some idiosyncrasies, more difficult install than average toilet...
This toilet came with a broken lid over the water tank. Because Amazon has limited numbers of each item it makes available to Vine reivewers, Amazon doesn't replace Vine items broken in transit. So rather than ship the toilet back to Amazon, we decided to keep it and buy a new lid ourselves. The lid was reasonably priced given the cost of the toilet--only $15. I was surprised by the low cost of the lid. I bought a replacement lid for a much cheaper Kohler toilet several years ago and ended up spending $70.This is an attractive, modern toilet with some idiosyncrasies you need to be aware of.First, this is a slightly low toilet. The seat is more in a crouching position than our other toilets. The distance from the floor to the top of the toilet rim (where the seat rests) is 15 inches. This distance on our other toilets varies between 16 and 17 inches. Though this is no problem for us, for older people it might be a consideration.Second, this toilet isn't directly screwed onto a metal flange that surrounds your drain plumbing. If you've installed other toilets, be aware that this toilet has heavy plastic tabs you use to anchor your toilet that must be installed in your floor toward the front of the toilet skirt. In addition, where you would normally place a wax ring you must put a heavy plastic plate that covers your flange. A wax ring IS used under the plastic plate, but the plate is attached to a plastic PVC pipe that goes further towards the rear of the toilet where it then turns vertically and joins to the actual china of the toilet, fixed securely to the end of the toilet's trap by a rubber gasket.Third, the flushing action of the toilet is a bit swirly/rotational rather than top down waterfall-ish, making for a powerful flush, yet a flush that can sometimes be evaded by lighter elements in the bowl.Installation of this toilet is possible by the homeowner, but it's a bit more complicated than your average toilet. If you're thinking of doing it yourself, Kohler has an excellent video demonstrating how it's done. I can't give the web link in my review, but if you search "kohler san raphael installation" you will find a very helpful Youtube video of the installation process. We like the toilet a lot. It's classy, modern and clean-looking. It's probably easier to install in a new construction project than to retrofit in place of an old toilet, but you CAN retrofit. You just need to be certain you have the space and the ability to drill the holes through the floor you will need to drill to install the plastic tabs that hold the toilet at the front.

Looks nice, but problematic since we've had it
Looks great, but after having had this model for nearly 10 years I'd never recommend it:- Hard to find and fit replacement seats, requires custom mounting unlike any other toilet.- Flapper valve is a custom part and very twitchy to adjust. Ours frequently runs on for a couple of minutes before you hear it flop closed, but is hard to catch in the act to see why it sometimes gets hung up.- Had to replace the flush valve seat after a couple years, after finding original had a crack. It was a pain to track down the very unique part, called a half dozen plumbing supply houses before finding it.If you're in love with the style and can tolerate calling someone once a year to fix or adjust it, go for it.
