A perfect first set for home use and portable enough to bring it to the park with friends. Your second set should be the 3.75 inch tournament set but is too big and expensive to be taken out of safety of your home. The quality is top notch, pieces are smooth and well proportioned. The pieces weighs like a hardwood would and the magnets helps to hold it in place. Without the magnets, i think it would still be stable due to the base being wide enough for its height. The board is well finished like fine furniture and its shade is lighter which provides contrast with the pieces. I like that its waxed like finish is not too shiny to be distracting and its easier to the eyes. I highly recommend this set.

This chess set is amazing especially for the price, it’s hard to find a wooden chess set at this price point, the wood feels really nice & the pieces are really well made, I especially love the knight’s design in this set, it doesn’t have eyes so it doesn’t look all weird & creepy like a lot of other sets, it’s a minimalist design, the pieces being magnetic is a really nice touch too, the magnets are strong enough to stick on the board without falling over when the board is moving but not too strong where it hinders gameplay, the magnets also compensate for the pieces not being weighted. Mine came with a broken latch so I emailed them & they replied to me very quickly & sent me 2 replacement latches for free, so the customer service is really outstanding. Overall this is a really good chess set for beginners, casual players or people who like playing on the go & I am extremely happy with my purchase!

This is by far, the nicest travel chess set I've ever purchased. From the moment you first unbox this at, you notice the quality. The board is beautiful. The pieces actually look like they may have been handmade. The whole set is a work of art. There are little flaws here and there, but only two that I care to complain about. The feet on the board are tiny little pins for holding the set closed. I found they left marks in my table after my nephew and I had a game. He is young and tends to lean on the board, so this shouldn't be a problem with adults players. The second thing is, the clasp on the right side was broken on arrival. There is a tiny pin that holds it tightly closed. That is missing. These are very minor complaints. So much so that I ordered a second set, as I'm sure that it will arrive in no less than perfect condition. As somewhat of an afterthought, the magnets are great. They hold the pieces firmly in place. TL;DR. This is a terrific set, well worth the price. I bought two once I saw how nice the quality is.

Absolutely Loving this! The way really nicely crafted, board opened and closed well, all piece has velvet bottom that made it easily and softly move piece according the board. Board and piece are made of wood, but despite of that pieces are very soft and does not have wooden spikes so no need to worry. Board is also smooth and give slight shining effect, but more of mate. Inside it has plastic form where you can place chess and checkers piece as soon as you are done. Best part - it really looks luxurious set, perfect decor, and very nice game piece to have game night!

Very nice and my grandson loved it! He liked the magnet feature , but that it was wood most of all. The knights looked a little better in your set, too.

Since me and my friends recently fell in love with chess, I wanted to play chess with them in real life instead of playing online. After I brought the set to them and played together, we all loved it so much. Here are some reason that this is a good chess set: 1. It's very cheap. Comparing to other wooden chess set, this is so much cheaper. 2. It's very easy to bring from place-to-place. I usually bring the chess set back to school to play with my friends. The design of the chess set make it so that it's very easily to pack up and assemble, having us more time to play on the board. The fact that it's magnetic is also very nice. 3. Good quality. You might expect a cheap chess set to have a not too good quality, but you'd be wrong. Me and my friends all agree that the chess set is very well made, and we absolutely love the feeling when we can touch the pieces and move them around the board. Overall I think this is a spectacular choice if you are finding a chess set to play with your friends.

This is a great chess set. I'm new to chessboards, so I've read the reviews, and this is my personal judgment. My board came without damage. All pieces are good. The inlay that the pieces sit in was not glued down the best, but it still fit snugly (by my own choice, a smidge of double-sided tape now keeps it in place). I've bought the chess and checkers set. They are all magnetized to a good standard, making it travel-friendly despite being a big board. Overall, you are getting a good deal with this set for its quality. Definitely worth the money.

Although this item has just arrived, a review is in order as it concerns the quality of the various items making up the whole package rather than it's use as a chess or draughts game. After all, the quality of the game is entirely down to the players, eh? :-) I was really surprised at how well-made everything in the package is; and the fact that its all made of high quality woods with no blemish or structural faults visible. Even the hinges and the catches on the fold-out board are of good quality, not the usual misaligned thin pressed plate that bends or falls off with the first opening. The veneer and stringing making up the playing surface of the board is also immaculate. The chess pieces are not the highest quality available but they're well-shaped, smooth, properly proportioned and made of solid wood with a decent "varnish" finish. They're much better, though, than just adequate or satisfactory. For the money, they're very remarkable indeed. I could find only one tiny fault - one of the knights has it's magnet sticking out the bottom a little, pushing off the baize foot-disc, as the housing for the magnet has not been fully drilled out. Soon fixed. The board with this set isn't itself magnetic, by the way, but it's perhaps useful that the pieces are, so could be used with a full size magnetic travel board, where you want the pieces to be immune to being shaken off their positions by a railway train swaying or whatever. All in all, exceptional value and quality for the money. NB Subsequent investigation reveals that the metal "rounds" in the foot of the pieces, under the baize, are not themselves magnetic. I presume that the magnetic board-sets have a magnetic sheet under the board squares that attract the metal rounds in the feet of the pieces. The set I bought is the non-magnetic variety.

Just received this set yesterday and i just had to write a review on it. Pros : Amazing quality and beautiful wood grain. Cute chess pieces, very finely made, excellent magnetic feel. Cons : I would have loved if it came in some carrier bag. The chess pieces were a little light, but then again, it wouldnt hold if it were overly weighted. All in all, a GREAT Chess set.
