I got the phone with a prepaid SIM from Orbital Satellite (OSAT). The package was complete and as pictured and it arrived earlier than expected. It took less than 24 hours to activate the SIM. Confirmation came by email together with the phone number, balance, and expiry date. Number customization is not possible. I did research on web and YouTube about Inmarsat’s and Iridium’s satellite networks. I did not consider any other providers. What stood out for me about Inmarsat is the stability of the signal and voice clarity once you get a lock on, due to the fixed position of the satellites. As to the phone itself, it is sturdy and rugged. With its texture and rubber on the sides, this won’t easily slip out of your hands. This phone can take bumps and drops. It doesn’t need a special adapter for charging, just a micro-USB cable. USB-C would have been great but this model launched almost a decade ago, so that’s that. What could be a letdown for some is the 2.5mm audio jack. You will be relying on the earpiece provided in the box unless you also own those types of headsets using 2.5mm. But there’s also Bluetooth and I was able to pair it. The numeric keypad takes getting used to when sending text messages or adding names in the phone book. But muscle memory comes back if you have used mobile phones in the olden days. The menu is graphical and easy to distinguish and navigate. I haven’t tested the 160 hours standby time and I don’t think I ever will. That seems to be applicable only when the phone has 24x7 coverage. Since I have mine antenna folded and stored inside the house, I get around 2 days of standby. Sending SMS to a mobile takes a few for the recipient. Call connection to a mobile takes less than a minute. I noticed that SMS to mobile shows your number, while calls to a mobile will show what seems to be a local mobile number. Calling back that local mobile number will get you nowhere. So it’s Inmarsat Isatphone 2 for me. Meets me emergency comms requirement with value for money. And thank you too to OSAT for the smooth transaction and activation. Will be posting a video in the future.

The instructions are vague and customer service after 5 emails seem to not even know whats stated on their web sight and when asking for a phone call for help that never happened. If you have never had one I would NOT recommend these people
