Fast but clicky
I purchased this particular drive (Toshiba X300 8TB) to increase data storage capacity on a desktop PC and replace an ageing 5TB drive that was starting to return increasing numbers of non-fatal SMART errors after many years of operation. The new drive was decently-priced for a 7200rpm "spinning rust" HDD and I've used Toshiba-brand data storage devices in the past with no issues. While moving several terabytes of data to this drive from the original one I observed transfer speeds of 90-100 MB/s which I think is not too shabby for regular SATA-3 HDDs. It still took a couple of days of hands-on monitoring to move ca. 4TB of data spread over several million files (photo images, video clips etc.) to this drive. I partitioned it as a single simple volume which, after formatting for an NTFS filesystem returns 7.27TB in the Windows Properties tab.Noise -- the drive is noticeably "clicky" in operation with mechanical sounds, especially as it starts up from cold or being hibernated after a time when not accessed. The pattern is consistent, three or four clicks after spin-up and SMART is not reporting any problems or incipient "infant mortality". The drive does come with a three-year warranty which is comforting. I back up all important information on the drive on a regular basis to multiple spare drives just in case.

pleased with this purchase so far :)
a WD green HDD of mine developed a couple of bad sectors after 5 and half years of solid use. I did a lot of research online on getting a new HDD to replace it and had trepidations over what to get. My choice was between Enterprise data centre or consumer desktop HDDs, but it sounded like TLER might pose an issue since I use non-raid.Alot of people have stated having excessive issues with modern high capacity HDD's including this Toshiba x300 model from noise to high temps, so it made my choice on a new hard drive very difficult.Fortunately I am having zero issues with this Toshiba x300 8Tb so far. I ran HD tune Pro surface scan on day 1 and it shows zero bad sectors and CrystalDiskInfo gives a clean bill of health too.The HDD is pretty silent in my PC and as for temps they were very low tooI hope this HDD will have a long life span with zero issues like some of my other hard drives which have ran upto 70,000 hours with zero bad sectors, but I replaced only due to wanting more physical storage capacity.Btw, maybe I got lucky with this HDD, since so many others ain't been so lucky, I have included some photos showing the 2 fans am using as air intakes for my 3 high capacity hard drives to keep them cool and a couple of photos showing what results I get from this HDD in use.

Affordable for the capacity but very loud at times.
The drive itself was super easy to install, regular SATA Connectors and it does the trick, there is however both pros and cons to this drive. The main pro that I would like to highlight is the capacity for the price compared to the competitors on the market, I purchased the 8TB model for around £150 and use this drive for Cold Storage, Game Storage, and Automated NAS Backup Storage on a desktop system. The main con of this drive is the racket that it makes when it writes, I have owned other "high capacity" Toshiba drives in the past that make serious noise when writing, however this is the first High Capacity Toshiba drive that I have bought brand new and was disappointed to learn that this seems to be the quality standard rather than a sub-par drives I had previously.I will concede that drives of this nature are marketed at the enterprise space to be put in storage servers that sit in datacentres where noise is the least considered factor when making purchasing decisions due to the extreme noise generated by cooling and power distribution systems and they are generally out the way with only a handful of engineers and technicians ever having to experience it, however when they make their way to the general consumer space after x period of time they can be good value for money.Put this drive in a moderately quite system where your other drives are SSD or NVME and you will know all about it. I have considered RMA in-case it was a mechanical issue at first, however I've used the drive long enough at this point for enough personal data being on it for it to require the drive be destroyed rather than returned at this stage.I do think that if they filled the drive with the helium gas that is in every single model just above the X300, rather than standard oxygen that the ship it with then the noise when the drive is writing data would be drastically reduced. Had I known this at the time I probably would have just went for a more expensive model when your talking this much money for recreational data storage.I would iterate that the drive is near silent when its reading data, even for large amounts of time, it only seems to be when its writing. I will add that I have power plan exceptions in place for the drive to stop spinning when its not been used for more than 60 seconds and a passive defragmentation happens on a weekly basis to increase the longevity of the drive.

Top Quality Product Top notch HDD
I bought this 8TB HDD to go in to one of my NAS drives, it was being sold at a very reasonable price and suited my needs, the unit arrive as promised and was well packaged. This HDD was very easy to install, I am going to purchase another three if the price comes down on Black friday. So far I have had no problems.I have now purchase three of these HDD drives and next month will see me buy another which will complete the upgrade to my NAS unit, I intend using external HDD enclosures for the drives that I will be taking out of the NAS to use with my new laptop.I can honestly tell you that I have had no issues with these HDD units, just remember to replace the new HDD into the same slot that you had the old HDD in.The price for this unit is very reasonable and fair, I would fully recommend this product to you.

Does the job just fine
Had for over a year and still running fine and compatible with my windows 11 machine. Fit is as expected and same for functionality. Noise level is not noticeable and was very easy to install pc recognised the drive immediately with no issues so no drive recognised errors.

Ottimo disco CMR By Toshiba
