It WORKS! But it smells so horrible after the heat styling
Okay, so far I am absolutely ENAMORED with this product!!!! So much less expensive than getting it professionally done. I’ve never done keratin before but I think I did a really good job! PLEASE WEAR GLOVES AND A HIGH LEVEL MASK WHILE USING THIS PRODUCT. Do NOT handle the treatment directly on your skin. Do not use this product after shaving, waxing or exfoliating your facial skin. All I wanted was to not have to worry about my hair for work, the hospital, and clinicals as a healthcare professional and student. As a model, this hopefully makes my life easier and I should still be able to have my hair curled for shoots. But I haven’t finished working with it yet… I did some of the steps out of order by accident. Here is your comprehensive guide of how I did this, and the honest truth about it so far. So I double-shampooed my hair with a clarifying shampoo, and then put the product through all of my wet hair for one hour. After doing this, I left it on for an hour. Then I ended up blowing my hair dry with a round brush (two different types of hair dryers) and then went over it with two different straightening irons. This is where I made a mistake - you are supposed to RINSE this product out after an hour and use a deep conditioner for 5 minutes (see step 5). I mistakenly left it on for about 24 hours. Do not leave it on for that long. The fumes aren’t good for you - you should be wearing a high level K/N95 or elastomeric mask while working with these chemicals. (Google Brad Mondo Keratin - you’ll see). The actual product doesn’t smell bad - it’s actually a cream and it can splatter a little. But it is easy to spread on your hair and cover each strand. One 3.4 oz bottle was more than enough for my hair, even though I have long, dense hair. As you can see in the photo, my hair has no frizz, and it’s so shiny after rinsing the product and re-drying with a blowdryer and then a straightening iron. CONS: Since I accidentally straightened my hair without rinsing the product, there was a lot of residual gunk on my hairbrushes and combs. There was a strong smell that remained in my hair after that. After rinsing out the product, 24 hours later, my hair smells AWFUL. I did not add a deep conditioner, and it is absolutely disgusting to smell it right now, even though it is very smooth. I expect that washing my hair and deep conditioning it tomorrow should get rid of the odor. PROS: The frizz is gone, especially the ones with my baby hair around my face. My hair is shiny and straight. It’s somewhat soft too. When I went to rinse out the product, my hair did not curl up like it usually does, so the product really did break the bonds for my waves. My only goal was to get rid of the frizz for my professional life in healthcare and studying. This product really worked! Also, here is how to use the product and do it yourself the right way. Good luck! The steps from the website are listed below: 1. Wash hair twice with the pH+ Shampoo, leave the shampoo on hair for at least 3 minutes during each application. Avoid massaging your scalp. 2. Section the hair starting at the nape of the neck and begin to apply ½-inches away from the scalp using the application brush to apply “The Best” on each ½-inch sections of hair while massaging into the hair with your fingers. The hair should be saturated with The Best. DO NOT APPLY ON THE SCALP. 4. Leave product in hair for 40-60 minutes. (60 minutes for maximum smoothing result) Cover the hair with a plastic cap. 5. Rinse product out of hair with warm water. For color-treated hair: apply GK Color Protection Moisturizing Shampoo and rinse. Apply Deep Conditioner for 5 minutes, rinse thoroughly. 6. Blow-dry the hair straight on high heat with a round brush using sufficient tension to smooth the hair until 100% dry. 7. Section the hair and flat iron with GK Hair Titanium Flat iron at 400 degrees. If the hair is overprocessed, flat-iron at 375 degrees, lower the temperature further if the hair is very weak and damaged; especially towards the ends of the hair. Pass the flat iron about 2-4 times in each section. 8. Clients are free to wash their hair at any time after the treatment, using GK Hair Shampoos and Conditioners fortified with Juvexin to maintain the results of the treatment.

IT WORKS!
I am Black with a mixture of 3C/4A hair. Some of you are trying to see how this works on black hair so here is a review for my people. IYKYK... For the record, I don't really believe in curly hair types because my hair pattern becomes more kinky when dry and is curly/coily when properly moisturized. I'm mentioning it here as a reference point for the girlies. Again, IYKYK. I like this product. I've tried plenty of things to help my super dry natural hair and NOTHING really helped. My hair continued to remain dry. I know natural hair needs moisture to cooperate & I KNOW how manageable my hair is when it's properly moistured (my first henna treatment showed me that years ago). Well the instructions were simple and straightforward. I didn't notice any bad smell like some other reviewers and I couldn't have cared less what it smelled like if it worked. It was VERY easy to use so the girlies who struggled, must be struggling in life because a relaxer at home coloring is way more complicated than this. I purchased the revlon blower dryer (Dr. Curly or tangle something) brush to assist with blow drying process which made everything SUPER easy. I also combined it with an olaplex treatment but I don't feel if affected my results at all. Truthfully, what really helped, was when I washed my hair a week later. I used the Aphoghee shampoo & moisture balancing conditioner. I didn't do another olaplex treatment, just the Aphoghee and my curls were Chris Brown Poppin! My natural hair was super manageable and my entire head was 4C for reference. I know my hair is thoroughly moisturized and behaving when I don't have to drown it in product. I can spray it with some water, a little leave in (my hair is fine so I do mean a little) and a bit of Aussie curl gel (the only gel I use because it's mositurizing and mixes well with ALL my hair products. You ladies know ecostyler doesn't mesh with everything, but the Aussie Moist gel does! The product does appear to loosen your curls a bit, but I believe it just really moisturizes the hair more than a looser curl pattern. Again, I think really moisturized hair makes a difference in your curl pattern. I only noticed my new growth because it was super frizzy and very tightly curled compared to the the keratin treated hair. I did my treatment early February and it is mid-April. I noticed about 2-2.5" of new growth and the treatment is still going strong. I'm unsure if it permanently straightens hair after repeated treatments but my next application will probably be over the untreated hair first. This is not like a relaxer/texturizer. My hair is still very curly; it truly is more just manageable than before. However, eventually, I will try to see if it straightens hair with repeated applications or it only lasts so many treatments before it reverts back to my natural hair. As long as the treated hair cooperates, I don't see an immediate needs to reapply the treatment of the pre-treated section. I apologize that this review is long, but I wanted to give as much details from my perspective because I know I didn't have much to work with from a Black woman's perspective when I was unsure about ordering this.

What happened to this formulation?
Either the formula has changed, or I received a fake one. I’ve been using this treatment every 3 months for years, but won’t be purchasing again. This time, the treatment had that metallic sheen of shampoo, and even felt like shampoo as I applied it to my hair. It usually looks more like conditioner. I waited the same amount of time I always do (60 mins) before washing it out and might as well have done nothing. Hair still has the same frizz, and feels dryer than a desert, which makes blow drying and straight ironing it after feel like I’m just adding to the damage. I’ll be looking for something else. So lame, this has been my staple product for so long.

Tame the locks
This product has no bad smell and zero fumes. It’s easy to use and gives a great result. Directions are clear and it can be applied at home without any help. I’ve been using it every 8-12 weeks for the past 7ish years now and it’s one of the hair products I don’t want to be without. The downside is that it doesn’t last long enough and starts to loose some effect after a couple of shampoos (use cool water and sulfate-free shampoo to last longer). The cost is also quite expensive for what it is. Still, I think it’s the best keratin product on the market for home use and it doesn’t damage my hair, so while it’s not perfect it still ranks at the top of my list. For someone like me with kinky, frizzy, unruly hair, this formula works very well. I leave it on for an hour and rinse clean before ironing/styling.

Actually does work
Disclaimer: I am not a hairstylist. I’ve gotten keratin treatments done in the past, but I’ve only ever done them in the salon. I’ve gotten traditional ones where you cannot wash your hair for 3 days, but I’ve also gotten ones where you can do whatever you want immediately after. I always preferred to get the ones with zero down time because I have to tie up my hair a lot for my job and I also have an oily scalp so I do like to wash my hair every 2-3 days. Background on my hair is that it is naturally straight but it’s also naturally frizzy in nature. I have thick and coarse Asian hair that’s also color treated. The problem that I’ve always had with getting keratin treatments done was always with how my hair felt immediately after. Even though I know it’s meant to help your hair, my hair ALWAYS felt terrible leaving the salon. Literally dry, crunchy, stiff, and hard to comb through because of how dry it would be. Sometimes I even noticed new split ends after the flat iron part. Always made me wonder if it was because my hair didn’t get properly coated, if the flat iron was too hot, if my hair wasn’t fully dried before flat ironing, etc. And the worst part was having to keep it that way for 3 days until I could wash my hair again. Once I could finally wash my hair, it felt fine and I could feel the benefits of getting one done. But I almost felt like my hair was getting so much heat damage during the process. I decided to try this because I saw a hairstylist using this on herself. I followed the instructions exactly as they said. The product did come with a packet of their deep conditioner, but I decided to use my own because on the back of the packet it said to leave it on for 20 mins, but on the instructions for the treatment it said to leave it on for 5 mins. I wanted to give this a fair shot so I decided to use the deep conditioner on another day since I was running low on time. I did blow dry with a round brush and tension as they said, and made sure every section was completely dry. For the flat iron part I set mine to about 375F and did 2 passes for each section. I really have to say I’m super impressed by the results. I really do hope this lasts about 3 months like a traditional keratin treatment. Once I got to the flat iron part I did notice the smell was similar to a keratin treatment but the product during application didn’t really smell like that. Best part was my hair didn’t feel dry and unmanageable afterwards like my past experiences in salons. I took one star off because the ingredients listed on the box, on the actual bottle, and on the Amazon description are different. That does make me suspicious, but it does seem to work so I’m willing to give it a chance. Also, I had to use what felt like half the bottle for my hair length and density which means I may get 2-3 uses out of the 3.4oz bottle. However, if this really does work and I only have to do this every 3-5 months, that is totally worth it!

Good product, just don't buy it from the manufacturer's website
Edit: Do your research about the ingredients in this product before deciding to use it, as you would with any other beauty product. Recent research has been released regarding the use of glyoxylic acid based keratin treatments. Original review: _------------------------------_ DO NOT BUY FROM MANUFACTURERS WEBSITE. I pretty much never make product reviews for anything but I decided to make an exception to warn people about this. I've purchased this product twice, once from Amazon, once from the GK hair website. The one from Amazon arrived boxed & sealed properly. I was happy with the product so I decided to buy it direct from the manufacturer's website. The packaging it came in was as far from tamper proof as you can get. There was no box, and the mailer was basically open so that anyone could slip their hand in. The product seal was already removed when it arrived, so needless to say I did not use it. Because of their extreme return policy (you have to notify them within 2 days of receiving it... I don't even check my mail that often) I could not return it so now I am out 65$. The product itself is good, I am happy with it. When I like a product, I try to buy direct from the manufacturer so they don't get hit with fees from Amazon. Also helps with avoiding counterfeits. Do not do that with this product, it's a mistake. Just make sure you buy from the actual GK hair store on Amazon so the product is held to Amazon's packaging and return standards, and not the incredibly poor policy of the original company. As far as the actual product goes, it reduced my curls to 3a/b when they were 3b/c before. It is not a drastic reduction in curl but you will definitely be able to tell the difference between regrowth and treated hair. Make sure you also get the high ph shampoo. For this type of keratin treatment opening up the cuticle with a high ph cleansing shampoo greatly improves the result of the treatment (according to the only published study on it anyway..).

the Best results / the least chemical irritation
As a professional hair stylist, I do keratin treatments regularly. I must say this is the best product out there. If you are following manufacturers instructions you should not smell the product, your client should not be experiencing any burning or itching or irritation whatsoever. I use it on my own hair as well. Amazing shine, incredible softness, drying time is cut in half , damage from relaxers and such is repaired- everything you are expecting from a good keratin tamer. Now, ladies, let's remember it is a tamer- do not expect your curly hair to become permanently straight... You will get about 4 months out of it(let's face it- anyone promising you longer than that is either lying or they are going to offer you some serious Formaldehyde) . The first months you won't have to do much styling- depending on your hair , of course. And also, if you are using cheap shampoo, using too much heat without thermal protection, using grocery store hair spray, over processing your color, or using the box color ... Well , you can guess the rest. Another tip here, if you are using TheBest formula, expect any colored hair to lift a level(lighten a bit ). I would suggest getting your keratin a week or so before your color . When I do my own hair, I do a keratin first, then color, sometimes I do the color the next day. I would recommend this product for any type of hair, especially extremely curly and resistant. And the lower amount of formaldehyde makes it easier on our lungs, because no amount of money or straightness of anyone's hair is worth inhaling some harsh chemicals. (If you are experiencing burning of the eyes, or irritation- you might want to read the instructions again or reconsider the product you are using - your body is telling you something). Enjoy your beautiful new hair, and remember, celebrities do not wake up looking like celebrities...
