Monograms and Alphabetic Devices (Lettering, Calligraphy, Typography)

This is my second copy! I love how it shows many combinations of letters put together. Its a no brainer if you want to combine initials without paying to have them professionally designed.

There are some great ideas for monogram pieces in here. I absolutely loved flipping through this book and just trying to recreate a few. After completing a few several coworkers wanted me to draw up some tattoo ideas from this book lol

The content on the inside is amazing. Definitely a must have book for your collection if you're into monogram and type design.

I checked this out of the library. The monograms are in the realm of the fantastic. They are elaborate, florid, mesmerizing. But someone tore pages out of this book! I'd like to buy it but the price is a bit steep.

WOW! If you like intricate, victoriana, heraldry or just enjoy the draftsmanship of the penmen of earlier times then this book is a feast. Love it! Worth the long wait for it to arrive from America. The condition is very good and unspoiled even though it was given a 'used' rating. Seriously highly recommended.

本書は４冊の本をひとつに収録する構成になっています。フランス系が１冊、イギリス系が３冊です。２番目に出てくる英国のH.RenoirのMonograms and Ciphersは２文字づつの組み合わせでとても見やすく、使いやすいものが収録されています。３冊目のF.KnightのNew Book of Seven Hundred & Fifty Eight Plain Ornamented & Reversed Cyphersは、これも２文字づつですが、カッパープレート体の組み合わせです。４冊目のJ. Gordon SmithのMonograms in Three and Four Lettersはその名の通り、３つ、４つの文字の組み合わせなので一目ではわかりづらい複雑なものも多いです。ですが複雑さに関しては１冊目のCh. Demengeot のDicctionnaire du Chiffre-monogrammeがダントツだと感じました。この本は鉄細工的なメタリックさがあり、シャープでがっしり組み合わされた黒っぽいモノグラムが多いです。いつかモノグラムを作るときの参考にしようと思い購入しましたが、組み合わせを無視して一文字に焦点をあてて見れば、カリグラフィーの飾り文字を作るのにも重宝しそうです。ブラックレターを書くときの飾り文字にぴったりじゃないでしょうか。
