Dark Secret Love: A Story of Submission

This was a very interesting book. I still have trouble with the whole Dom/Sub thing personally. I can understand to an extent why people are attracted to one or the other and I would never criticize them for making that choice, but there seems to be a recurring theme in all of the BDSM books that I have read that really bothers me. I don't understand the need to publicly humiliate the Sub and/or sharing them with other people as if they were an object. I also have trouble with the inflicting pain out of anger. To me that is abuse plain and simple. In my opinion there is a huge difference between inflicting pain for the mutual pleasure of both parties involved and severely/savagely beating someone in anger, even if they are willingly taking the beating. That being said, I found this book to be well written and a very interesting story to read. Knowing that it was written by someone with actual experience made it so much more interesting. I had trouble putting it down. As much as this subject bothers me, I must admit that it also intrigues me and I do believe there are many healthy Dom/Sub relationships out there. I also believe there are many Dom/Sub relationships that are just calling it that to justify a truly abusive relationship and from an outsiders view it would be very difficult to tell the difference between a loving Dom/Sub relationship and a hateful abusive relationship.

In Dark Secret Love, Alison Tyler confesses her own erotic education, as "much as she can give" us, and her story will leave you breathless. Once she left behind the sexless boyfriend, Alison discovers a love life of GOOD drama that's inspiring and eye-opening, fierce and erotic. Even if bdsm doesn't turn you on, the emotional intuition and connection between Jack and Samantha makes this book a great read, because it shows that possibilities are endless if you're committed to creative sex.Alison Tyler's elegant writing and vulnerable confessions give a visceral feel to every short chapter, and the creativity her Dom uses to keep her guessing and focused is unbelievable. As she gives us snatches (heh) of their dark games, she draws the story so tight that only she and Jack are in view, and the erotic surprises are so compelling, you can't stop turning the pages for more.As a lucky reader of her blog while this story was being published day by day in 2006, I know that the story only gets better, but it's going to be a long wait til the next book comes out.

Dark Secret Love is a fictionalized semi-autobiographical story of a woman's entrance into and acceptance of her own submissive nature.While I enjoy erotica, I don't often connect with characters the way I did with Samantha. Perhaps it's because Sam's experiences are based on some of Alison Tyler's experiences, and thus ring more true? Or perhaps because I understand all too well the experience of being offered what you want and running away in fear.While there is plenty of hot sex, Dark Secret Love is more than that. It is a deeply personal exploration of submission. If you're not a member of the scene and want to understand how we got this way, this book may be enlightening for you. If you are a member of the scene, the book will ring more true than most.My only complaint? I had been looking for a story like this and was so glad when I came across this story by accident on amazon. Although not a submissive myself I have been probably been obsessed with a reading a realer side of BDSM after reading fifty shades. I then found Tiffany Reisz original sinners books and that opened me up to a wider range of king and relationships that weren't exactly black and white. With all that said, this book was a delight. The fact that it was semi-autobiographical and written in such a real way kept me glued. The way she was broken down and built back up to accept herself was thrilling to read.I read all night. One after another. This is my first taste of Alison Tyler's writing and I can't wait to devour all her other works.

A real, deep, honest look into the lifestyle and one person being true to themselves. Difficult to read at times if you're an empath and feel the words and the story too much yourself. Could have rated this a 2; should have rated this a 5; settled on 4. Fascination and self- punishment drove me to read it all. Probably be a long time until I can work up to Book Two.

This memoir is very detailed in the scenes about whipping, caning, flogging. Samantha’s ass had to have been in a constantly bruised state. Quite interesting and entertaining.

Kinky but not satisfying. None of the characters are likable. Our heroine is a lost soul just looking for pain.

I know you have to kiss a few frogs in order to find your prince but this one here seemed to go through them. As soon as she met up with her 'perfect match' I started to really like the book. Not that it wasn't good before just made me not like her very much considering she would just jump from guy to guy.

This is an outstanding work from Alison Tyler. I'm astonished that I'm the first to review it.I read this book almost in one sitting - in other words, I didn't have much sleep that night. Sam's voice is so authentic and as a reader you are with her every step of her journey into submission. But equally, I think so is Jack's voice. This is more unusual in my experience. Frequently the male Dom voice can be slightly undeveloped and is one dimensional. This time all the characters are fully developed. Jack reminded me so much of a Dom I've known for many years. Like Jack, he has a high profile job, but has his own deep dark secrets that are shared with very few.Alison has written a brave and beautifully crafted autobiographical novel. Or at least it feels as if it's autobiographically based. I'm not sure how many other erotic writers would have the courage to open their lives for close scrutiny in the same way. Even if the actual events recounted didn't happen exactly as written, I'd be surprised if the emotions and levels of vulnerability and submission are that dissimilar from Alison's own life and experience. Bravo Ms Tyler!

Forget the writers of soft sweet romantic erotica Alison Tyler writers sharp stories that pack a punch and her memoirs is no sugary slouch . She explains what she likes and the men she has met in great graphic detail . I loved the first half of her story , all the dirty Beverly Hills detail and her living with Nate and Garrett and their life style . Then she met Jack and without giving the plot away I became rather bored . Whether I felt I had stepped back into a 9 1/2 weeks scenario or just am tired of a handsome rich man who has it all and wants to control .... I he just wasn't the man for me ... but that's not to say that this isn't a top bed time read .
