Oh! friend, our sling bag adjustable shoulder straps can be adjusted up to 14in to Max 26.7 in Fixed shoulder strap 19.6in Adjustable shoulder strap and fixed shoulder strap 34in to Max 47in

Q: will this pass through a metal detector witthout setting an alert ?

Yes we did not have any problems going threw metal detectors

Q: Can this bag be used as a small diaper bag? Just something to hold a couple diapers, a pack of wipes and sanitizer in it? Along w/ keys/wallet/phone?

Probably, if the diapers and pack of wipes aren't too big, they would fit in the main compartment (designed to take an iPad mini or ereader) and the keys/wallet/phone could go int the other pockets.
