In today's world, many busy people choose processed, pre-packaged food for convenience reasons. The problem with this is that we give up vital nutrion for convenience. This problematic situation begs for an answer, and that answer, I believe is smoothies; Smoothies are drinks prepared at home with raw, all natural ingredients and a blender. This book has all the info one needs to create optimum nutrional levels, increase energy levels and to eliminate toxins from our processed food diet.A closer look at this would start with "why drink smoothies ?". Most people want to eat healthy, but many don't know where to start. Including smoothies in your diet is not complicated. A blender does the work, and we choose the ingredients from the recipes included in the book. Smoothies have no unwanted additives, are better than juices, have more fiber and whole raw fruits and vegetables. Sugar is absorbed at a slow even pace when we eat adequate fiber; smoothies promote a feeling of fullness and prevent overeating. They are ideal as a meal replacement and nuts, herbs, dairy and soy milk can be added. Now lets consider the tools needed to prepare smoothies: a good quality blender and several sharp knives, a colander, salad spinner and measuring cups. Additionally, smoothies are beneficial in weight loss since they lower our caloric intake. Overall, smoothies can benefit anyone and you can use them for occasional dietary supplement or incorporate them into daily meals. Smoothie preparation can be simple and inexpensive or involve an extensive financial investment in acquiring all the ingredients mentioned in some of the recipes. Smoothies ~ Bon Appetit !

Iām a visual person and pictures with color is definitely helpful. I bought this for my dad but I would be the one making it for him and this book kind of sucks

Straightforward but creative
Making smoothies always seemed intuitive or obvious to me. But the this book has some great ideas and helpful clarifications. As compared to juice, for instance, smoothies have more fiber, keep longer, can make them complete meals by adding fats and proteins, and are easier to clean-up after! You can consume smoothies faster than individual fruits and veggies. You control the ingredients (no extra fructose). This is key to anyone aiming at weight loss!I found the chapter on the dessert smoothies most helpful as I a have a bit of a sweet tooth and eat real junk from time to time. This chapter offers alternatives to high fat deserts with unhealthy additives.The intro notes that Vitamin C leads to improved circulation and improved nails, hair, skin, etc. The tips on reducing froth or curdling, buying in bulk, preparing ingredients, and storing left-overs were helpful. And I finally learned why things ripen quicker in a paper bag!Some of the tips were too obvious to be printed in a book, like common sense tips for picking fresh fruits and veggies. But all in all the info and recipes are great!

Smooth reading all the way through!
The Smoothie Recipe Book for Beginners is so much more than a recipe book! It includes a wealth of information about not only smoothies, but their main ingredients - fruits and vegetables and why they are so good for us. By reading this book, you will learn the whys behind a plant-based diet as well as how to select the right blender, how to shop for ingredients and how to incorporate super foods into your smoothies as well as how to do 3 and 7 day cleanses, a detox and using smoothies as part of your weight loss plan. It also gives some fantastic tips about how to simplify the smoothie making process - I had never thought of measuring all the ingredients for a particular smoothie and freezing them together in a plastic bag and then taking them out and popping them in the blender! Also included is a very detailed chapter on super foods, many of which I had never heard of. The best explanation I've seen for the Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen which helps you decipher the overload of information we receive about eating organically grown foods. Did I mention the dozens of great recipes?! This book inspired me to incorporate smoothies into my family's lifestyle and I highly recommend it!

A great little book
As someone that finds eating fruit a faff and wanting to eat healthier I can recommend this book. It gives lots of advise on the process of making smoothies with health benefits explained. The recipes are great (note think the book is American as measures are in cups). I have a set of cup measures so finally get to use them. The recipe is detailed.. no photos but I don't think that matters. I have eaten more fruit and veg in last week than ever. I am loving it

2014 edition - no pictures
Great book with simple to follow instructions! My 10 year old loves this and uses it to make everyone breakfast. Couple of less good points1. Written for American market - all measures are in cups, and some ingredients use the American term2. Definitely NO PICTURESOtherwise a great buy with some really tasty options!
