Where is this corkscrew manufactured? One of the reviewers indicates China?

Under Product Information, it says "Origin France" so maybe Amazon will fix that. If it's made in China, and well made, that's fine. But IMHO, for $40, Le Creuset should either make it in the EU or lower the price.

It doesn’t say anything on the wine key. You got me thinking though so I checked the Le Creuset site. Made on China. Don’t let that deter you. This is my favorite wine opener ever and still works as well as the day I bought it. I bought a second, cheaper one from a different brand and it was a waste of $. Should have bought another one of these.

Is the handle walnut or close to the color of walnut?

This is a great item. I would say it has a nice tone... more red in the color than walnut. In terms of light and darkness, a little lighter and less black than walnut, but darker than a medium oak. The photo has whiskey barrel Oak and a white paper towel.

Does this have a bottle opener. I am looking for a nice gift for a server/bartender

Yes, it does have a bottle opener. It's also one of the finest wine openers I've ever used. I've put aside my gas opener, my electric opener, my Rabbit, and all the other wine openers I own and use this one exclusively. It's fun to use and practical. Hope this helps.

It has some heft to it, the hinges are taut but not tight, the foil knife is slightly curved to arc around the bottle neck. It worked perfectly. I would caution you that the hinge mechanism is a tad different and takes getting used to. Unlike most Waiter's Friend Corkscrews, that hinge and just move in to the bottle when light pressure is applied, this one is more "spring loaded" and requires you to push the hinge inward when trying to use the first stage of the opener. It took me two or three bottles to make this a fluid movement. One quick comment - this opener is exactly the same as the: Prestige Coutale Sommelier - Wood Inlay Handle This opener is $10 more expensive that the Prestige Coutale Sommelier - Wood Inlay Handle I am a Le Creuset fan, and understand you pay for the brand and the quality of the brand. However, I can really not find a $10 difference in the two. I own them both, did not return this one when I saw the Prestige Coutale Sommelier - Wood Inlay Handle was exactly the same - but if you're more focused on cost, then Prestige Coutale Sommelier - Wood Inlay Handle is probably the opener for you. A great wine opener

Slick & elegant design with perfect performance

This is the finest corkscrew that I have owned. I have had double stepped corkscrews before, but this one is more integral & user friendly. The first step is spring loaded & quickly slides back out of the way allowing the 2nd ledge to take over. I am an engineer & I love the smooth action & simplicity of the mechanism. It is sleek & built to last. Sure it costs a few bucks more but it is a great design, attractive, compact & easy to use. Engineers love slick & well designed tools & this is a fine one. Hard to tell I love it, right?

Very nice but pricey

Bought this as a gift. The recipient really likes it and considers it to be really good quality, I also have one the same that I received as a gift. I find it a bit hard to use, but I do think it is good quality. Just have to practice opening more wine I guess! LOL
