DIEGO (The Trident Series Book 8)

Wrapped up neatly
I really enjoyed this book (and have loved this series) and felt that it was a great ending to wrap it up (other than the wedding)Diego has been a background character in most of the series with what feels like very little page time, but nevertheless a vital member of the team.I liked how the story focused on Diego to begin with giving him more colour as a backstory and the incident leading to how he came to meet Campbell. The team dynamic in this series is strong and I particularly like how all the team are in all the books and it has a real sense of “family” within that team.I loved Campbell’s resilience and personal progression from her naivety still at the beginning to the stronger character we saw at the end of the story. Her background was quite tragic and horror filled but I thought despite this dark element of the story it was dealt with sensitively and focused more on helping her recover from that and becoming stronger and embrace other people rather than push them away.Underneath all this is a slow burn love story (very very slow burn actually…much more so than the other books I think) intertwined with the typical all team action/danger elements that fans of the series will loveI received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Trident series with mystery and romance
Sidelined by an injury US Navy SEAL Mateo “Diego” Rivera feels as if his whole career is hanging in the balance until he goes before the medical review board. in the meantime he’s requested by his commander to guard and protect Campbell Rogers.Campbell is recovering from a gruesome leg injury that all but ruined her dancing career, and is determined to escape the man who has made her life a living hell. With the help of her employer and his friends, she’s able to flee the small mountain town she’s called home, once and for all. However until Mitchell Langford, the man hunting her is no longer a threat, she’ll be under the protection of one Navy SEAL.Until now, Diego has been pretty much in the background of the Trident Series, but this book helps the reader understand why he is the way he is. Perhaps now Campbell and Diego can help each other to heal, and grow stronger? This is the 8th book in this series and there’s plenty of mystery, suspense, slow burn romance, and action to bring the whole book to an end.

enjoyable
At last Diego gets to meet his other half and how she needs him! Campbell has had a really awful time in an abusive relationship and is desperate to leave but doesn’t know how. Her wonderful boss has connections to a seal team and is able to provide the means for her to leave and somewhere to stay. Luckily Diego and Campbell are mutually attracted and things go from there - until they don’t!I enjoyed this story but the ending felt a little rushed and the editing could be tightened up a bit.

Love at first glance
Loved this story about Diego and Campbell. Like the other wives in this series they had to go through some traumatic few days before they found their happily ever after.

Fantastic!
What an absolutely fantastic book! I just loved this series! Diego is the last remaining single man on his team but not for long when he helps out Campbell, who is in hiding from her abusive ex. Diego can’t believe the way Campbell was treated, and the more time she spends around him the more he falls for her, he just needs to convince her that not all men are the same. However when her ex tracks Campbell down she is left in grave danger, with Diego racing to try and find her in time. An amazing storyline that has you hooked from the start, you honestly won’t want to put it down. The characters are absolutely fantastic and have an amazing connection, I just love a happily ever after. A brilliant author! The entire series was just fantastic and would be at the top of my favourites list!!I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I LOVE The Characters - Just Didn't Love The Story
I am really frustrated by this author and this series. I don't usually review books that are 3* or less but I can see the potential with this author that I hope she can go onto have some amazing work in the future but it just isn't there yet.I have LOVED all the characters and there is the making of an excellent series but Jaime Lewis seems to fall at some important hurdles that means her stories just fizzle for me and aren't up there with some of the other greats in this genre. The first thing that bugs me is that there are some glaring errors that an editor should be picking up. If Jaime has an editor, she needs to find a new one. There are spelling mistakes, punctuation errors and even in this one, a character that is call two names in the same sentence. This makes it hard and frustrating to read because this just bugs me as a reader. The story itself is well thought out and it builds at a great pace. I love Diego and Campbell and was so excited as I had been with all the rest of the previous team stories to see how they grew. But then you get to between 60-80% of the books (all the books in this series) and realise, the story is about to be cut short and what could potentially be an amazing story is just fizzled out. It's almost like Jaime runs out of time or has decided to wrap it all up as she has hit a word limit and it sadly means that the stories get left forgotten or left feeling like they've been rushed or incomplete. For me, I was excited to see how Mitchell and Vinny caught up to Campbell and how this all played out - but it took less that a chapter to wrap up and was a bit of a let down. Also, where was Fred and Stella who had become so vital to Campbell - they just disappeared after Fred had organised things. Extending these parts - what I felt could be the actual story - would make this a unique story rather than the simplistic SEAL meets the love of his life, they fall in love quickly and that SEAL and his team save said heroine and were off to another wedding which every book in this series seems to follow the pattern of. It's not bad to follow this - I love many authors who brilliantly follow this pattern but what makes them great and makes me automatically buy their books is that the whole story is told and in detail that makes you feel like the story has been resolved and thought about.I gave the whole series a go and am curious about the next series Jaime writes but I'm just not sure I will be buying it in the future.

Diego and Campbell
Highlights of domestic violence played a role in the story but didn’t overwhelm it. Although any description of that kind of violence is hard to hear. Campbell over came though. I liked that she was talented in home construction. Who would have thought? And darling Sienna strikes again! That kid is hilarious.

Ok story but why did the editor sleep on the job???
The story is okay. Nothing new or exciting though. Short sentences, simple wording. The bridging between chapters could be much smoother. The worst, however, is the editing or better yet the complete lack thereof. Sentences where adjectives, nouns and verbs were confused and worse still tense errors that make fluent reading impossible.

Bear with it - you won't be sorry.
To be honest, I found the first book in this series a little slow and I kept putting it down. I eventually finished it. However, I got the second as I thought I'd give it a second chance and got sucked in.If you like Dale Mayer or Susan Stoker, this one's got your name on it.
