It’s a spiked plastic ball but effective
I have a lacrosse ball that I use for my calf, hammies, and lays sometimes. But after a deep seated glute injury only this spiky ball gave relief. It’s not very hurtful actually.

Too Stiff, It just hurts
Its really uncomfortable and if you put even a moderate amount of pressure while using it, it just hurts. Would NOT recommend to anyone for massaging and therepeutic purposes

Hard ball not to be used as a squeeze ball
It's not flexible it's hard so can't be used for squeezing as an exercise for kids.
