For Pet Lovers Everywhere
For all pet lovers, especially those who feel for shelter pets and rescue pets, and for those who know the value of adopting a homeless pet from an animal shelter and giving them a second chance: hear your own voice in Ken Foster’s words; feel your own emotions in his; know the fraternity of sharing the same thoughts as he had; and get swept up in his own journey of how he became an animal advocate, a pet rescuer, and a Pit Bull lover. He has a very engaging, candid and charming writing style, and is a keen observer of the absurd, the tragic, and the humorous.

Finally someone just like me
I wish I could meet the author Ken Foster. When reading this wonderful account of his relationships with dogs I felt connected to a kindred spirit, someone who understands what it means and feels like to have strong relationships with the dogs we live with. Without anthropomorphizing animals, Ken yet recognizes the individual personalities, feelings and needs and canine love in his pack. I wish Ken could meet Cesar Millan The dog whisperer with someone's camera rolling. I know I would learn amazing things if I could hear those two talk to each other. This is an endearing book you will want to share if you live with and love dogs and maybe even if you don't. Highly recommended for wonderful writing. I love books like this in which it feels like the author is talking directly to me. Ken is genuine and open - indeed quite vulnerable, as he shares his feelings and experiences.

Touching and realistic encounters in dog resuce
I liked this book a lot. Ken really seems to come upon and see what most of us do not. I've never had that many encounters with stray or lost dogs but they seem to gravitate to him. Through it all Ken comes off as an ordinary guy who has no special training but a love for animals that most likely ozzes from him. The animals certainly seem to feel it! I'd really have liked this book to be longer. Perhap a sequel?

A must for any animal lover or wanting to do more for these animals.
What a great account of the joys, and sometimes sorrows, of helping those animals who were thrown out like yesterday's trash, but mostly joys. Ken Foster shows us that rescuing animals in need always has it's rewards, and even when the story doesn't always end the way we'd hoped, rescuing gives the animals at least a brief glimpse that not all humans are bad and they all deserve to be loved, safe and happy. The organizations he lists at the end is very useful in giving us a starting point to find out more about rescuing, specific breeds, do's and don'ts when approaching a stray or injured dog, and other valuable information & insights. Great book, wonderful people, beautiful dogs!

Any thoughtful animal lover should be able to relate to this book
It's pretty simple to tell whether you'll love this book. Do you love animals and agonize over the shoddy ways that they're often treated by humans? Are you interested in personal stories of how people's lives change because of the animals who come into their lives? Do you have both a heart and a brain? If you answer, "yes," to all three questions, it's impossible for me to see how you couldn't love this book. For me, it was more than just a charming story about rescued dogs. It was a deeply affecting story of how the man who rescued the dogs needed to be rescued by the dogs just as badly as they needed HIS help. Anyone who's felt the joy of having animals need their help -- and who has felt changed in a positive way from helping -- will love this book. I highly recommend it for those who place themselves in the groups I'm describing.

A different kind of dog book
This is an interesting (and quick) read that focuses on the issue of abandoned dogs - not only ones abandoned intentionally but also those who just become that for all kinds of reasons. The focus on the bond that is created between any "owner" and the dog that is found provides a different approach to the dog/owner relationship that I found to be interesting. The book is not so much about providing insight as it is about relating experiences, but at points it does cause the reader to think about lost animals who need the help and relationship with humans to have good lives. All in all, worth reading but not compelling.

Great book for when you feel alone in your efforts
This book was recommended to me by a woman in Okinawa who rescues, rehabilitates and rehomes dogs. I work at a small animal shelter in Yokosuka, where it is so easy to feel like we are constantly failing. 'The Dogs Who Found Me' helps me feel like there are many others out there, also giving their all and seeing the dogs (and cats) that nobody else sees. Stray animals are a huge problem in Japan, along with puppy/ kitten mills and a prevailing public opinion that you needn't spay/ neuter. Adopting instead of buying from the pet shop is also a relatively new idea and most people don't know the problems of buying. As you can imagine, the pts rate of animals picked up by authorities is around 80%! I read this book right at a time when I actually needed to be lifted up again. I truly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for helping animals who are up against a wall.

Animal Lover
I enjoyed this book for the most part. It makes you think about all those dogs out there that need a home or ones who are out there that are being mistreated. I think it is great what Mr. Foster is doing for all those poor dogs out there. Especially Pit Bulls. I also liked all the informative information on shelters, rescues, etc in the back of the book. The only problem that I had with the book was the writing style. It wasn't written very evenly and took me longer to get done than usual. All in all it would be a book I recommend.
