is this a run capacitor or start capacitor?

This is a run capacitor. I replaced the old one with this on an attic fan that was running slow and would gradually go slower and slower. The new capacitor fixed the issue and now it runs fast and strong again.

Are the product dimensions really 1 x 1 x .25" ? They look more like 2 x 1.25 as a standard oval.

The dimensions are (2''W x 1.25''D x 2.13''H (+ .5'' for Terms)).

Can this replace w a 97f9001? i have a capacitor model 979001 and it shows the 370vac and +0.6 -0.6% 50/60hz.

Yes it should.. You will find the new models are about 2/3 the size of the older ones but they work just the same
