B complex vitamins are critical for many processes inherent to life. They serve as cofactors for enzymatic reactions, and are necessary for gene expression, oxidation-reduction reactions, energy production, detoxification, and formation of other biologically essential compounds. All the B vitamins play a role in mitochondrial function, and deficiencies may be associated with oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage. Although many of the B vitamins are present in the diet particularly in an era of "food fortification," a large portion of the population still experiences deficiencies, particularly of B6, B12, and folate. Deficiencies may be attributable to age, hypochlorhydria, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, alcohol use, poor nutritional intake, and use of medications such as proton-pump inhibitors, diuretics, metformin, and hormonal contraceptives. Although serum levels of B12, B6, and folate may suggest sufficient levels compared to laboratory ranges, measurement of the metabolites homocysteine and methylmalonic acid suggest that tissue deficiencies are quite prevalent. Genetic polymorphisms also may impact the ability of specific forms of B vitamins (e.g. folic acid used in food fortification and in cheap vitamin supplements) to meet the body's needs. Quicksilver's Etheric DeliveryTM Phospholipid Encapsulation System brings the power of intravenous therapy into convenient oral delivery.* Liposomal nanospheres have optimal absorption beginning in the oral cavity, enhance lymphatic circulation of nutrients, and deposit their contents intracellularly. The phospholipids that compose the liposome shell feed the cell membranes; this helps ensure the proper function for the absorption of nutrients and the excretion of cellular waste products and toxins.* *These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
