The first one I received had been broken in half and glued back together. Amazon gratefully did a fast swap and got me one that wasn't broken. It's a nice and sturdy mortar with a rough enough interior and texture on the pestle to grip spices well and easily grind them. It's heavy and doesn't move around the countertop, especially if you put it on a damp kitchen towel like you would a cutting board. It cleans up nicely. Just make sure to clean it out thoroughly so you don't have lingering flavors from the previous round of spices mixing in with whatever you are grinding up at the moment. If you like fresh, full-dimensional flavors, like coffee brewed by freshly ground beans, you'll love what this can do to add a wonderful flavor dimension to your cooking. Great investment.

We have needed a mortar and pestle for a long time and we were waiting to choose the right one for us. Im glad we chose this one. There is plenty of room in the bowl. Its nice and heavy so it stays in place. The stone is beautiful and yeah. It works nicely for our kitchen needs!

Excellent product at a fair price. I use this to grind seeds( fennel, cumin,coriander etc) when making various curry dishes( chicken Madras, dopiaza, lamb Rogan Josh, etc). Great piece of kit.

Outstanding size, weight, and quality. Very comfortable to use. Great for spices, herbs, nuts, etc. Not big enough for Pestos, or large batches of flours, etc. Would definitely recommend.
