The Spirit of Herbs: A Guide to the Herbal Tarot

Balanced and healing: a wonderful, kind-hearted new friend.
Repeating a portion of what I said on the Deck's review: The Herbal Tarot guide (The Spirit of Herbs) is the most balanced and healing I've ever seen. Nothing judges. Nothing condemns. Everything orients toward great, ignorant, leafy ways. "Beloved, gaze in thine own heart," said Yeats in "The Two Trees". "Gaze no more in the bitter glass." The guide understands this intimately.Every card is accompanied by a description devoid of old titles, which I've quickly come to appreciate. A card that I might previously simply read as "Failure," for instance, is merely and sweetly Valerian, and the meaning contains both all you fear and all you hope from that weeping figure. As a result, there is no need in the Guide (as there is in the LWB) for a separate "reversed" meaning. The deeper, wiser, balanced truths are all right here. This book is teaching me so much, in that way. Moreover, while the deck follows many old social norms in the Rider-Waite tradition (although I am pleased to meet far more characters who are presented as female), the Guide does a wonderful job of gently moving past old, limiting ideologies.I also appreciate that every card's entry contains a remarkable amount of information on the herb, including its scientific name, astrological correlation, spiritual and medicibal properties (plus dosing). There are also helpful key words and affirmations, as well as "Herbal allies."Again, even with the affirmations (which could be cheesy), I again find genuine comfort, a wise and thoughtful outlook. The book itself is smallish and cheaply bound. I would love to have a nicer copy, but it does make it easier to write in it. The contents are what matter to me. No stars subtracted. This Guide plus the deck are two items that form a wonderful new friend. I'm very grateful for such a healing tool. Thanks, Mr. Tierra!

Good deck companion
Good deck companion, but not really needed unless you want to learn about the herbs and plants Thought it would have more information on what the cards mean. But it’s cool to learn about the herbs and plants that are on the cards. I thought they would maybe tie in why they chose a specific herb for a specific card.

Herbal Tarot is a fantastic guide, both tarot and herbs
Herbal Tarot is a fantastic guide, both tarot and herbs. It brings the two symbolism together. The book Spirit of Herbs help to understand the bridges. Of course It is not complete, and there are rarely used herbs among the cards, but in principle, it is quite OK.

This book really accompanies the herbal tarot much better than the small pamphlet inside of the deck
This book really accompanies the herbal tarot much better than the small pamphlet inside of the deck. I enjoy tarot insights that focus on the growth available. This book provides insight to each card as well as the medicinal and spiritual properties of the herbs allowing you to cross reference the cards and their herbal associations. I recommend buying this book along with the deck.

LEARN MORE ABOUT HERBS
A great alternative to conventional Tarot decks, The Spirit of Herbs is also a teaching tool for those who want to learn more about herbs and herbology. I highly recommend it to budding herbologists and curious herb gardeners.

A gem of a find
Well worth the wait. It arrived well packed and in very good condition.. Since then I've used it every day and find it to be a most useful book. Helpful in deepening my knowledge of herbs and their connection with the tarot cards. A must to be used with the Herbal Tarot Deck and worth the unexpected price of this booklet.

Brings more insight into Tarot and herbs, but Google the side effects of plants before...
I was so curious about this book, wanting to learn more about the healing power of herbs from the authors who did such extensive research across cultures.I find it both interesting and intriguing connecting the Spirit of Herbs with the Spirit of Tarot (deck follows closely the original Rider Waite model).Had my favorites and now have learned more about other herbs that before I did not pay much attention to.As a guide to the cards deck, book explains the image and the symbolism of the details on each card. There is advice offered for healing that situation and a herb to enhance this process through its spiritual and medicinal powers. Herbal allies that can add to the healing powers of the showcased herb are also enlisted here. I suggest to GOOGLE THE PLANTS FOR SIDE EFFECTS IF YOU DECIDE TO TAKE THEM INTERNALLY, as not all of them will be right for everybody, at one moment in time. There is little about it in the book (this not the scope of the book), but it's something we can manage ourselves.I would have placed the Affirmation not at the end, but at the beginning, possibly right under the card's name.Book gives more insight into Tarot, and in my opinion it can be used also with the classic Rider Waite deck. I do not have the Herbal Tarot yet, but I am considering buying it because I like the antique look, with simple drawings, just as first cards were a few hundreds years ago.Thank you AMAZON. Book arrived much earlier than scheduled and in perfect condition. I received the edition with the green cover, which I like very much.

amazing!
First the book cover is different, but still AMAZING content. I got this book to further my knowledge on Tarot. Since I have studied medicinal plants on a chemical level, I knew this book would help me relate better to tarot and it did. It opened up another level of understanding on both tarot and herbs. Love it very much and got the cards afterwards so even better now. :)

I just bought the Herbal Tarot deck and was thrilled to find the book online for such a reasonable price. Brand new, received it promptly, and goes into a great deal more detail than the tiny booklet included with the deck. I would say it's a necessity for anyone who has/uses the Herbal Tarot, unless they are already extensively educated in herbalism!
