Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition

Complete Nutrition Guide
In addition to covering nutrient timing this book also discusses diet in general. it does a great job explaining how many calories you need to eat, what ratio of macros you should eat, and the timing of these. It also, goes in depth on the science of what is happening. Furthermore, it has a chapter where it talks about the difference kinds of proteins, what various supplements, vitamins, and minerals do. The dietary advice it provides explains how to gain lean muscle mass and minimal fat by using nutrient timing to make the macros you eat more efficient. There's a lot of conflicting nutrition advice on the internet. It's nice having a book about nutrition that is written by a scientist and based on research evidence. The reason I give this four stars is because some of the information is not well explained. While they tell you the amount of protein, carbs, and so on for the timed drinks they don't provide an actual recipe. The first drink is essentially gatorade + whey protein + vitamins. I think it's easier to use gatorade powder than it is to measure out sugars, potassium, and sodium individually. The next drink is protein + sugar. The last drink is a protein shake. These descriptions are slightly over simplified. To figure out the portions you need to do some math or you need a scale to weigh the ingredients. It's a really good book that answered a lot of diet questions I had.

Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition
Nutrient Timing: The Future of Sports Nutrition This book has great science behind it, that's what compelled me to try it out in the first place. After reading through the book (there's alot of pure science in there to justifiy their claims) I was sold on the approach. I searched the web for products that would line up with their recommendations. I ended up purchasing the following products:For the NTS Energy Phase (pre-work out/during workout): AcceleradeFor the NTS Anabolic Phase (post-work out): Endurox R4I haven't looked hard nor found the appropriate supplement for the NTS Growth Phase. I got the above supplements directly from the maker - Accel Sports. I haven't checked but understand you get them at GNC stores as well.In any case, I started using them. I am 55 years old and hadn't worked out much in the past few years so I thought I could use all the help I could get. I am rather lean (5'10" and 160lbs). I found using these supplements before and after workouts have helped me alot. I feel more energy during workouts and feel like I recover quicker after them. I also had my 16 year old son use them for his workouts (he has a much more vigorous workout than I could even imagine). He says the same thing, he has much more endurance and feels better after using these supplements.Lastly, they all taste pretty good! We have orange and lime flavored Accelerade and Vanilla and Tangy Orange Endurox.

Pure awesome science of getting yoked!
So, as all good reviews start, I have never written a review for a product on Amazon, but this book was so good I had to.Ever since I first discovered weight training all I have cared about was gaining muscle. All my friends wanted to get "stronger" or the mythical, metrosexual "toned." I have just wanted to scare women and children by being jacked. While this book would definitely be helpful for people looking to get "strong" or "toned", it is the first scientific take on how to gain muscle I have ever read. I took a kinesiolgy class in college, but everything we did was related to performance; my teacher couldn't conceptualize the idea that someone would just want to get super huge. That being said, this book gives super in depth, scientific information on how to gain muscle. It talks about using different nutrients to create an anabolic environment in the body and really backs it up with scientific data. I didn't know how powerful certain hormones like cortisol and insulin are, and how much of an effect they have on the body.I loved that Harry Potter books, but this book was even better. If you are a fitness nerd, who has a basic understanding of bodybuilding nutrition, BUY this book and take it to the next level. This book is my new bible and I expect to makeALL KINDZ of GAINZ

Must read, but..
Excellent book. I've got two major criticisms:1) I wish that this book had more information about nutrient timing for different age groups, I feel like this book speaks to very young people. I'm 38 years old, I want to follow the suggested dietary and nutritional plans in this book but I know that I should make adjustments due to my age. When I look at some of the figures for how many grams of high glycemic carbs I should have I get nervous because I don't want to develop diabetes, etc. I have not found any information about that in this book.2) I don't see anywhere in the book about what to eat on non-workout/off days.Otherwise, I consider this book to be very well-written, informative, and inspiring.

Quit wasting your hard earned gym time and buy this book
I grind out in the gym 6-7 days a week trying to gain size and strength. Lately my size has hit a plateau and Id started to get frustrated, so i took to the internet to gain more practical knowledge of nutrient intake to achieve my goals. All my searching lead me to this book. Ok, so one review gives a pretty basic but accurate gyst of the book so I started applying it. Spiking my insulin levels to shuttle protein into my muscles faster post workout. Voila! Within days I was looking more full and I have started adding size again. I recieved the book yesterday and starting reading it. Its written so it is easily understood and applied. If you work your butt off in the gym and have started to get dimishing returns, do yourself a favor and buy this book. Not only does this give you direction in diet and timing of nutrient intake but it also is an eye opener on supplementaion as well, there is alot of snake oil being sold by supplement companies and this book gets you back to basics and how to apply them properly. Seriously, good luck in your fitness endeavours and rememeber this. To adapt to training is to never adapt to training.

Great supplement advice.
Its easy to go to the gym and hit the weights but without planning, all the hard work put-in could be wasted.'Nutrient Timing' gives specific advice about what supplements and vitamins have given 'proven' benefit in workout performance and post-workout recovery. Also what supplements to avoid because they have shown to have 'no' real benefit. The book gives advice about the 'timing' of foods (protein/carb drinks)prior to/during/after workout to maximise performance and recovery. To complete the 'planning' I highly recommend these books:'The Metabolic Typing' Diet by William Wolcott....because this book gives advice about how to find the optimum balance of Protein/carbs/fats for your every day consumption of whole foods.'Static Contraction Training' by John Little and 'Max Contraction Training' by John Little....because these revolutionary books give brilliant advice about exercises that will give you immediate muscle growth.Gel all this info together and look forward to a great body!!

so far so good
My "key takeaway" here (to borrow from the author) is that you can and should trigger and then use a strong insulin response to supercharge muscles during and immediately after heavy training.Everything else is better covered by other experts in other areas. That one thing however (the insulin trigger) is extremely powerful. I'm getting noticeably better results in a matter of weeks. You can feel the extra sugar energy taking you further during your workout and you can also feel (and see) the anabolic effects hours and days after a heavy workout. So, awesome insulin-trigger hard training method but rather poor and mediocre general nutritional advice.

useful
the book presents some useful info, and some things are clearly explained. couple of things i found was that the author rambled on about the same thing for many sections, so found that a little too repetitive, and also i found he referred a lot to the research other people have done, which makes me feel its a bit like a summary of other peoples work. but i am keen to try out the theories from next week for a month and see if there are benneficial. for me right now, i seem to have hit a plateau in terms of getting a bit bigger and leaner. if it works, i will def post a follow up.

Good book but it can waffle
Great book has some good breakdown about nutrition. A lot you can adapt or find elsewhere. It does tend to go over points again and again but at least i remembered what it was saying. worth a read and only 6 pounds on kindle. One of the better nutrition books i have read.
