Great for review!
I can speak to this as a review book, but not sure how effective it is for learning the language. That is, Tagalog was my first language but has become passive as I had stopped actively speaking it. I can understand it, so this is great for re-learning. It really makes what I already know make sense, especially the introduction where it reviews pronouns, articles, and pluralization. The book gives the pronunciation which might help first-time learners, although I believe they would also benefit from hearing it spoken by a native speaker. I like the way it is organized into everyday topics and I can imagine these phrases being used on a regular basis or by someone visiting the Philippines. Really happy with this purchase!

"Mura na ito!’’ – 'This is a huge bargain!' – Learning Tagalog the fun way
Lingo Mastery continues to be a valuable resource to make Tagalog more accessible to a wider population. Following in the style of Tagalog Short Stories, this new volume of 1500 Tagalog Phrases is full of new vocabulary to enhance communication. In the Introductory Note the goal is stated well: ‘When looking for a new language to learn, Tagalog is one of the many languages that most learners tend to look past as an option. This is primarily because English is also a national language for the Philippines; so understandably, foreigners do not worry much about linguistic barriers with Filipinos…we cannot take away the value of learning Tagalog. Speaking in English during your visit to the Philippines is not a foolproof guarantee that miscommunications will not occur… You may still encounter people who do not speak English. Hence, you must know the basics – from Tagalog phonetics to vocabulary. Basics. This is what this book is all about.’What follows, before the phrases that placed here to learn, is a fine lesson in pronunciation of vowels, consonants, pronouns, the importance of stress and intonation, glottal stop, syllable stress, and then the supply of valuable lessons begins – colors, numbers, greetings, date and time, common questions, when someone is being rude, medical, ordering food, transportation, religious questions, emergency, technology, conversation tips, date night, money and shopping, children and pets, traveler’s guide, directions, apologies, answers, small talk, business, the weather, hotel, sports and exercise, the first 24 hours after arriving, the last 24 hours before leaving, – all spelled out in accessible format with Tagalog to English translation to correct pronunciation for learning. And so it proceeds with one of the more accessible adjuncts to mastering the Tagalog vocabulary in a manner that places words in context and thus – easy to remember! The technique is solid and the lessons well taught. This is a very fine continued introduction to Tagalog – encouraging further enhancement of global languages! Grady Harp, August 21

Super Simple Phrase Book
The book is a good resource in providing you with common Tagalog phrases. The introduction mentions that the phrases chosen are to help you with carrying out simple conversations however the structure of the book doesn't guide you through a conversation. It is on you to study the provided phrases and know when to pull them out at the right opportunity. The book does good in breaking up the chapters. They are categorized into something like "Ordering Food" or getting "Directions" so you can narrow down areas to study for particular situations and ignore chapters you may not need. Each phrase does give you the English meaning and the Tagalog translation. An improvement I would like to have seen is to get a little more help with translating unique words in the phrases. Otherwise, it's on you to look up the words and break it down for better comprehension of the translations.

With the right method this is a really good resource
It took me a while to write this review, because when I first got this phrase book, I really didn’t know what to do with it… But I am very happy I got it and here is why. From the first glance, this is just a collection of 1500 sentences in Tagalog that are grouped into around 20+ topics. The book is not like other traditional phrase books. The aim is not to provide you with phrases that you can parrot to get something done. It’s really trying to immerse you in the language though a ‘mass sentence’ approach – a massive collection of sentences that don’t really connect into a meaningful story or a dialog, but still provide a huge immersive exposure to the language. I have to mention straight away that using this phrase book without audio will only give you a tiny percentage of its value. Get the audio book! Then just listen to the audio and follow it in the phrase book. Sometimes I just listen, sometimes I repeat and shadow. There are many other ways to benefit from it (just google ‘mass sentence method’). In conclusion, this is a great addition to my Tagalog library, and I will definitely use it a lot to supplement my language studies (I’m around upper beginner level) until I feel I am ready for more advanced content.

Great for traveling or anywhere!
The media could not be loaded. Great book! My Filipina friend and I laughed our a### off, me trying to speak her language properly. The book gives examples and pronunciations for speaking Tagalog with each sentence or question. She took my book with her, she says it helps with her English also.

Great reference and resource!
This has been a great resource so far in my quest to learn Tagalog. I'm using it more as a supplement to my learnings through a daily lesson app. This book has helped explain a little more context on some of the areas I had questions on in the grammar and has allowed me to better understand the structure of the language as well as conjugations and tenses. So far so good and I'm glad I purchased this.

Well done and easy to use!
The introduction with the explainations was very well done. I really liked and appriciated how every word and sentence was written out in a way that you could sound out the words correctly. Very helpful with those really long words that always give me problems. This method is used from start to finish. The beginning chapters start out very easy and basic then they eventually get more difficult. The common topics get covered first to help build up your vocabulary. The phrases and sentences are common and relate to me and what I am experiencing in my life.I will be using this book many times on my tagalog language learning journey. It is my new favorite “go to” book.
