While it hits the mark in many ways, the small text size and dense reading level make it more suitable for shared read-alouds than independent reading for younger children. Here's what I loved: Gorgeous Artwork: The illustrations are truly captivating, bringing the Bible stories to life with vibrant colors and engaging scenes. My child was constantly asking about the pictures and their connection to the text. Christ Connections: The "Christ in Scripture" sections are a brilliant addition. They cleverly highlight how Jesus is woven throughout the entire Bible, even in stories seemingly unrelated to him. This opens up wonderful opportunities for discussions and deeper understanding. Perfect for Family Time: This book shines as a shared experience. Reading it together fosters conversation, reflection, and a stronger connection to faith. It's perfect for bedtime stories, family devotions, or Bible school classes. However, there are some points to consider: Small Text & Reading Level: The text size is quite small, and the vocabulary and sentence structure are geared towards older children (possibly 10 and up). While my 7-year-old enjoyed the pictures and some simpler passages, reading it independently proved challenging. Paperback Durability: The paperback format might not be ideal for younger children who tend to be rougher on books. A hardcover option would be more durable for frequent use. Overall, The Gospel Story (One Big Book) is a beautiful introduction to the Bible's core message. With its stunning artwork, insightful "Christ Connections," and emphasis on shared experiences, it's a valuable resource for families and religious educators. However, for independent reading by younger children, the small text and reading level might pose a hurdle. Consider this book more as a shared journey of discovery rather than a solo read for under-8s. If you're looking for a visually captivating and meaningful book to share Bible stories with your family, especially children aged 10 and up, this is a gem. But for younger independent readers, you might want to explore options with larger text and simpler language.
