Nice violin for the price. My kids teacher specifically said not to buy the instrument on amazon, he wanted us to rent it from one of the music stores but for the price it made no sense, not to mention I wasn’t sure if my kid was going to stick to it. We had some issue in the begging because the violin wouldn’t hold the tune and the teacher wasn’t being helpful because we didn’t do what he said, but after I personally spoke to him he said he could use a spray, that is proper for it, that makes it a little sticky so the strings wouldn’t slip so easily (forgive my lack of proper terms, he didn’t give me a name for the spray, that was his explanation) after he did that the violin was perfect. My son used it all year. The case handle broke, both of them, but I won’t hold this against them because I’ve seen how my kid would carry it and swing it so I’m not surprise it broke. I was able to stitch it back together and it’s been holding well. My older kid outgrew this one and I had to buy a bigger size so I went ahead and bought the same violin in full size too. Never had a problem with it. Now my younger son uses this one and even though I got the same speech from the teacher( different one) about not buying from amazon she never said a word about this violin. This is a perfect product for a kid or a beginner and it comes with everything you need.

I bought the 1/2 size for my 8yr old boy, based off comments in the question section. I bought it in black. BE AWARE: the black is NOT black matte, but a shiny, glittery black. Just saying. I bought after seeing a video on YouTube where this guys tested 10 different violins of various quality and price, and my husband and I both thought the cheap Amazon violin was one of the best sounding. And let's face it. An 8yr old boy isn't exactly gentle on stuff, nor do we know if he'll actually like it (it was his idea). So, it came with everything shown, and a few extras such as rosin (needed for bow), batteries for the tuner (excellent!) and a book on how to play. Case alone is worth $100. When I bought my flute ages ago, a case like that was extra $$$ and considered high dollar. The bow came with the bridge in place, but did need extensive tuning. I DO reccommend reading the enclosed instructions, they are GREAT. You need to rosin up the bow for a while, and the pegs as well. The sound was shockingly amazing once that was all done. NO VIOLIN STAYS IN TUNE!! They are wooden instruments, and subject to the weather conditions outside so you must tune EACH TIME you play. My teacher added some sort of oil to the tuning pegs to keep them from slipping. You can also twist the tiny little metal pegs at the bottom to fine tune the tuning (I didn't know this until the teacher did it). Even the tuner impressed me, it listed each note on the back of the back that each string needed to be tuned to, and I had no complaints on ANY of it. I was just more and more impressed. He goes into lessons next week, so we'll see if my review changes ;) UPDATE AFTER LESSONS: Teacher was impressed at everything that came with the set, even the book! Teacher suggested packets of alchohol wipes to keep in case to clean the chin rest, strings and bow path. You bow comes un tensioned for a REASON . . . always UN tension it when done playing or you will RUIN your bow!!! ****I had NO idea*** The shoulder rest is TOO BIG for small kids. Instead we ditched it and use a chunk of squishy foam and rubberbands. Works much better! 100% would purchase again and recommend for anyone starting out!

It's a sturdy, pretty little thing and when I first got it I was entranced by it. It was surprisingly comfortable to hold and for the first week, that's about all your really learning to do. The bow is nice and sturdy and the screw maintains the horse hair very well. I only have to adjust it about once per week. The rosin is frustrating if you don't know what your doing. Take a house key and score the top of it 3 or 4 times before trying to apply it to the horse hair. I didn't know and kept trying to apply it without scoring it and could never really get a good sound. So I'm into week 2 and I'm trying to play Twinkle Little Star. And what sound I can make sounds horrible. So I try adjusting the tune using the supplied tuner. This is where it got frustrating. I didn't know what I was doing so I broke 2 strings quickly. Figured out how to put on the new ones. And kept trying to get them to stay tuned according to the meter. They would hold the tune for a few minutes and then it would be off. I figured, fine I can live with it until I get my tax return and buy a real violin. It's week 4, and I am getting to where I can actually play Twinkle Little Star, but the sound is so bad I just can't do it and so will be financing a high quality instrument. Overall, this is a great instrument to buy if you're just curious, or especially if you're buying for a young child. Be warned however that if you get hooked on it, and I sure did, the 30-40 minutes I practice at night has become the highlight of my day. I get excited about trying different finger positions and what kind of notes I can make. Then you will quickly become frustrated with it. And you will buy a better one. It was definitely worth the $80 to find out that I really enjoy it. Way better than dropping $500 to have it sit in the corner and collect dust, because I didn't actually have a passion for playing.

Bought this violin after I realized that it would be more fiscally responsible than continuing to rent. THe violin is overall fine, the purple is a pretty color, it sounds fine. Tuning is kind of a nightmare because the pegs slip but as long as you use them cautiously (its pretty time consuming) you can tune the instrument. My problem is the bow. It doesn't produce ANY SOUND- and I know it isn't the violin itself because i still have my bow from the rental violin and it produces sound just fine. The strings are too loose and when you tighten them the bow curves up and continues to not produce any sound. When I called them they asked if I applied rosin a couple times (I did) and then offered to ship me a new one in 3 days. They called me again the next day and asked if I had scratched the rosin (I did) and then shipped me the bow (came in 3 days, like they said). The replacement they shipped me HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. No sound, gets bent when tightened, the material feels cheap and no resistance to create sound on the strings. TL:DR Violin is fine, if you're a beginner and have the patience to tune it carefully. The bow is terrible, and judging by the fact that the second one they sent me is terrible too tells me its not a one time occurrence.

OK, so let me preface this by stating that, yes I am aware that I purchased a $69.99 violin online and yes I did not have high expectations. I am a woodwind player so my knowledge of stringed instruments is limited. However, I have been interested in learning my way around our less breathy friend, the violin, so when I came across this one I said "Why not? Let's see how it goes." I received the item quickly and it appeared to be in good shape (UPS apparently paid attention to the "handle with care" notice on the box.) With great excitement I opened it and prepared to delve into the world of strings. The case looks nice and appears to be sturdy. The interior is acceptable and fairly standard however the top will not stay up. It drives me absolutely bonkers. There is a strap at the scroll end that appears to be too short so it's an act of balancing to get the lid to stay open and not constantly fall over as you try to unpack. Once unpacked I inspected the fiddle and found it to have a nice matte finish, although flawed in many places but again, it's a $69 violin, so perfection was not expected. The bridge was already placed so that was one less thing to worry about at setup (there is also 1 spare included.) Unfortunately, upon removing the bow, I found several hairs had either already fallen out and were lying in the case or were already broken and hanging off. Disappointing but again...you get what you pay for. The provided accessories, rosin, shoulder rest, and tuner were standard and not really remarkable. The rosin arrived cracked down the middle but I was still able to scuff and use it. The tuner does appear to be quite accurate and easy to use. The package also includes an extra set of strings, which is good since it appears the will be needed often. During initial tuning, 2 broke. The D string broke as soon as the peg was turned the first time. My suspicion is that it was already frayed. The replacement string snapped as well 2 turns into loading it, bringing me to the conclusion that Cecilio strings are probably not of any quality. They are cheap though so if you're like myself and just "fiddling" around with a new hobby- order them in bulk...just sayin' Overall, it's meh. Again, I am not looking to become a stage performer or prodigy. I just wanted to learn a new instrument and maybe play some Christmas songs for my family so the Mendini violin meets that need but if you are looking for a serious player or school band instrument that will get daily play, you may want to consider something more substantial. I have also through research found out the many repair shops will not service Mendini products due to the repair cost outweighing the purchase price, just FYI. Anyway, hope this review is helpful. UPDATE: I contacted Cecilio Customer service regarding issue with Bow, rosin, and the strings and they are replacing them at no charge and no questions asked. Our daughter has been playing violin for almost 3 years. She recently measures into a full size 4/4. This is the same company we bought her 1/2 size violin. This company takes good care of us, being sure to get the ordered product to us in a timely manner with quality care. There is so much included in the price. It is a student quality violin. It has a nice sound, but not the expensive violin sound. We expected this and we are pleased with this purchase. Note, there was one zipper that came slightly broken. The slider pull part broke off, but it still zips closed and open, so we put a nice string on that part to be able to pull it open and closed. Daughter said the rest is good and she was able to get the bow rosined, and the violin tuned and playing well in about 20 minutes. She used her old rosin to get it working that quickly. She needs to work the new rosin to get it worn in still. The rosin does look nice though. Also note, the shoulder rest was on the violin when we took pictures.

My toddler likes to get my violin out, so I decided to redirect him towards a cheap violin he can use himself without me worrying about every bang and crash. We got a 1/16th size, and if he’d let me put it under his chin it would be absolutely perfect. The sound is canned, but what do you expect from what amounts to a $50 violin? With all the add-ons (the case, extra strings, extra bridge, tuner, shoulder rest, and beginner’s book), it may be even less expensive for the violin itself. The pegs do move easily, especially right after shipment, so be sure to push them in before tuning. You can also use some powdered rosin or peg compound. As your violin gets used to your environment, the pegs will slip less and less. I’m actually impressed with how well this cheap violin stays in tune. So far, this violin has done its job of providing a cheaper form of entertainment than a true violin. Maybe some day my toddler will figure out how to tighten the bowstrings himself, and perhaps he’ll actually want to learn how to play tunes. I didn’t purchase it for him to learn on (though I hope he does decide he wants to), but it would be an excellent violin for a beginner or a parent who wants their child to experiment before committing to a more expensive instrument.

La caja donde venía la otra caja con el violín en mal estado, el estuche negro lleno de puntos de posible hongos, olor a humedad, el violín aunque se ve bien, tenía un poco de polvo en algunas partes, lo compramos nuevo, ojalá suene bien, mínimo deberán cambiar el estuche, cualquier instrumento musical debe de estar protegido contra la humedad, sobretodo los de madera.
