A good album marred by indifferent sound quality
It's always nice to have a new Einaudi album and Underwater is a solo working, rather than a collaboration, so it was exciting to hear this.I have no complaints about the musical content but, like others have said, the sound is muffled, there are faint rumbling/knocking sounds in the background and the music is sadly robbed of any dynamic range.Perhaps due to lockdown this was recorded in a home studio rather than a professional one?It sounds like you are listening through an Amstrad midi system from the 80s!Unfortunately a good hi-fi system will also reveal shortcomings in audio quality and that is none more apparent than here.A shame, but still one for the collection...

Variations of singing melodies
We listen to the Italian composer and pianist Ludovico Einaudi to perform on the piano his solo piano compositions. The fascination of the music derives from the beauty of its spare elegance, its transient melancholy, the subtle variation of its intrinsically beautiful, lyrical tunes, and an indeterminate feeling of nostalgia. It is amazing that these simple, slow paced melodies are endowed with such rich emotional impact.

Fabulous
Ein Audi back to what he does best. Excellent album. Beautiful music. Better than some of the concept albums that I found a bit self indulgent

A truly beautiful double album
A stunning solo return; each side of this double album is full of beautiful melodies. So relaxing, too.

Diabolical recording
First up, I like Ludovico Einaudi and don’t dislike this CD in the standard way - or at least I don’t think I don’t! However, as remarked by others the standard of the recording is absolutely dreadful. It sounds as if it were recorded on equipment from decades ago. I certainly agree with one reviewers use of the word “muffled”. In fact by the time the agony was over, I had a headache coming on! I contacted Decca about this several days ago but as yet, not received the courtesy of an acknowledgment let alone a reply. Consequently I have also e-mailed Universal and enquired if they are aware of dud discs. My advice would be see if you can buy this in a High Street retailer and ask if they can play a couple of tracks from it before committing yourself to a purchase. If on the other hand, the music is supposed to sound like this, steer well clear of it and buy anything else by Einaudi.UpdateA week on from contacting Decca, despite a reminder, no reply - pathetic. Also contacted Universal about this as I believe they are signed up with Einaudi and enquired if they are aware of a faulty batch of CD’s. Advised to take it up with Amazon! Erm, they aren’t to know if something faulty has been delivered to them! Sending CD back now, will buy again in due course and hope any iffy copies are out of circulation by then.
