Even though it’s fact , doesn’t lose its western interest , it’s a must read if you enjoy the stories of the Wild West

The history inside is good but does skip large relevant parts. The British colonies is only briefly mentioned as is the revolution. On the whole a good read.

A very well written short summary of some of the main characters who made this brief period off American history so renowned. It manages to remove most of the romantised notions we have taken for granted for so long, yet still succeeds in retaining its fascination.

I like that this book comprised many aspects of the Old Wild West era, from Outlaws to Sheriffs and Indians to the great gold rushes that occurred and the changing attitudes towards the Native American people who lost much of their land, rights and lives due to the people who settled there. You learn how the Wild West has wrongly been romanticised over the years and have to admire some of the skills the people of this time had to become legends in history. I thoroughly enjoyed these stories.

Bought this book as an introduction to Wild Western/USA history, to separate the Hollywood versions from the real versions. Very informative, I intend buying more of the same if available.
