Ordered 2- both defective
We ordered two of these waterers. Neither one works. The first one was dented, but not in a way that should affect its ability to function properly. The problem with the first one is the spring/rubber stopper. When I fill it with water and attempt to carry it anywhere (using the interior handle) the water will seep out and overflow. By the time I get it to my coop, my shoes are wet and I have lost half of the water. Once the lid is in place, it works OK. For now I have solved this by shoving a rock in the spring to keep a tight seal with the stopper until I get the waterer where I need it.As for the second one, the vacuum is non-existent. Once you put the lid on, the waterer will overflow (with a slow drip) and within a few hours be completely empty. We have not been able to find any pinholes where the vacuum would be lost, but I am hoping we can fix it to avoid the hassle of returning it. We are very disappointed in this product and may end up returning both of them.

best waterer every.
Unlike my first galvanized waterer this brand doesn't leak out and over the trough unto the floor while you fasten the cover. This is my third, for the run. My second waterer is inside the coop on a warmer to keep the water from freezing. My first metal waterer, different brand, rusted, leaked til I got the lid fastened and rusted. This brand gets two thumbs up.

Very good fount
It works well, carries plenty of water, does not leak;, no issues. We've been using it for about 2 months. The fount is in two pieces that create a vacuum. To get the top piece off, you twist to free the top section from the little peg at the base, and then lift the entire top section off. The bottom piece is what you fill with water. You can pick up the bottom piece with the sturdy handle at the top of that piece. When you have set the fount back down where you want it, you can then push the top piece down over the bottom piece, seat it on the peg, and twist to re-secure it.Note that this is NOT a hanging fount. The outside handle is NOT designed for hanging. In fact, if I remember correctly, they discourage picking it up by the external handle when the fount is full because it puts a lot of pressure on the little anchor peg. (I suspect many of the problems people report with this fount are because they attempt to treat it as a hanging fount, using the outside handle improperly.) Instructions are included to this effect, but it's easy to miss (or misunderstand) this detail regarding the handle in the single sheet they give you.We set this up in our chicken run, using a couple of bricks as a base (to elevate the drinking area slightly from the dirt/straw of the run). We slosh it out a bit each evening or morning to clear any debris that gets in from chickens scratching nearby. All in all, I recommend this fount as a high-capacity, low maintenance, outdoor fount. I suspect it will be durable too (galvanized metal, sturdy construction), but we'll have to wait several months for a reliable verdict on that.

Perfect
I use this as a wild bird waterer on my upper back deck. I place it on a post between the railings. I love watching the little birds perching on the rim getting a drink. Since this holds 3 gallons of water, I am not constantly refilling it.

easy to handle
used this for pullets, just the right size and they haven't been able to turn it over or mess it up.

Nice quality waterer for my chicks.
Is being used for water for 18 baby chicks. Put on a few blocks in the chicken pen and it stays pretty clean as compared to leaving it on the ground. Nice quality. Pieces fit snugly together. The double wall allows for just the right amount of water to escape into the drinking channel. Holds a goodly amount of water for growing chicks even though the water is changed every day. Keep level or water will come out. Easy to clean.
