Patons Classic Wool Roving Yarn, 3.5 oz, Black, 1 Ball

I really liked the quality of the yarn, but I was extremely disappointed to receive about half of the amount listed. I was linked straight to the Dark Grey color, and the description clearly states "223yd/204m".. I bought two skeins, or just enough to complete my project, and received two marked "120yd/109m". This error seems to ONLY be listed with the Dark Grey color, and it was my misfortune to choose to buy that particular shade. I felt pretty upset about it, but I was forced to keep and supplement the yarn: I didn't have the time to return it and find more yarn, and I couldn't seem to find a way to contact Amazon and complain about the mislabeling... only initiate a return.Beware, you will get HALF the amount you think you're getting if you order in the Dark Grey color!

Wanted to add this update - the socks I made shrank incredibly so I would advise to not put any garments made with this yarn in your dryer. Original review - I had never crocheted with wool yarn and wanted to try and this was so reasonably priced I went for it. Its a little difficult to work with because micro strands of it are forever coming away from the main string. Not so bad as I was crocheting along but a real pain when I had to pull out several rows. The tiny loose strands would anchor down stitches preventing them from coming undone. Also not good is the smell of the socks I made with this yarn after laundering. I put them in with a regular wash load and then into the dryer. Everything else dried but not the socks and they smelled like a wet dog. So I hung them outside for a few days, then brought them in and had to leave them out to continue to air for several more days before I felt it was safe to put them away in a drawer. The socks feel nice and I look forward to wearing them as slippers this winter. But not looking forward to the ordeal of washing and airing every time I launder them. I have other wool socks, thick ones, ones that I did not make, and they wash and dry just fine. So I don't know what the issue is with this yarn. It proclaims to be washable.

I bought two skeins of this Classic Roving yarn in Frosted Plum and began knitting a hat to go with my new coat. Everything was going just fine until I was nearly halfway along, then the yarn suddenly became much thinner. It was only about half the thickness it should have been and it got so thin in some areas that I thought it might break. I kept knitting for a few more rows hoping the yarn would return to its normal bulky #5 thickness, but it never did. I was knitting on No. 10 needles and the first 3 1/2 inches of this hat was made up of nice, full, plump stitches that I could not see through when examining the knitted product. After the yarn began thinning, the stitch were so thin that I could see right through them when I held up the knitting to the light. I checked the gauge of this thinner section and the stitches were 5/inch as opposed to the 4/inch with the normal thickness. As far as I could see by examining what remained of the ball of yarn that I was working from, it was all much thinner. I rolled the 2nd skein into a ball, careful to examine every bit of the yarn for thin areas, but it all seemed fine. I'm faced with an unpleasant dilemma. Do I rip out the rows that were made with the much thinner yarn and hope I can pick up all those stitches? Do I just join the new ball of yarn and continue with that, hoping that the thinner rows won't impact too badly on the finished hat? I will definitely finish the hat with that second ball of yarn, but I will definitely NOT buy this product again.

I bought this because I needed a bulky yarn to make a sweater quickly and I also wanted it to be cost effective. This yarn cost more than I wanted to spend on a mass produced store brand and even though it was cheaper in JoAnn's and other places, they did not have the colors I wanted. The yarn was not so bad. Other reviewers said it was like actual roving. It is not. There is twist to the yarn. I also did not have the problem with it splitting as some others have mentioned. My biggest complaint is that they did not do a good job cleaning the yarn. I kept picking, what I can only hope was straw out as I went along. One ball also had a knot in the yarn. I hate that. There was also decent stitch definition with a nice halo. I'm not sure if I would purchase it again. Definitely not online as it was more expensive. But if I had a need for bulky yarn and nice colors were available in-store, I might.

This yarn is great, and I would definitely recommend it! I’m seeing a lot of mixed reviews so it just must be a personal preference. This yarn is extremely soft for 100% wool because it is unspun. This makes it thinker and thinner in some places, I personally don’t mind this and think it adds a fun uniqueness to the work. The other con I was seeing in reviews is that the yarn will break because it’s unspun, This is something I did experience, however you have to give it a really good tug for it to pull apart and is not something I find to be a deal breaker. I think this yarn has wonderful color options and is really great for hats and scarves!

If you're buying wool yarn online, I have to assume you know what you're getting into already.It is definitely wool, it is definitely yarn. I got undyed, which was the same color as indicated on the picture. I used it to make reusable dryer balls, it was easy to manage and didn't tear easily--well-spun.Good brand, would buy again if in need of yarn.

I ordered three balls of yarn from Paton. The first that came was the natural - I have found that it is VERY uneven. Some of it is large and lumpy, some VERY thin. The second came a week later - it was black - this has been the best one; very even and a nice large ball. The third came weeks later and then was delayed again. This one was red. The ball is fine, even and all but I don't understand why I had to wait so long for three balls from the same company - to make my grandson's Christmas stocking. Did it take that long to dye the wool or something?

In the description, it was written: sold in pack of 6, but there was no pack of 6. I only received one ball of wool. I will never no more order with this saler
