DK Eyewitness Top 10 Miami and the Keys (Pocket Travel Guide)

Excellent Informative guide book

I have a few DK Eyewitness mini-pocket guides. They are a bit smaller than this format, but also quite informative.I like the graphic design of this guide. It's important to ensure you get the right number of pictures in the guide - not too many and not too few either. I think they got it right with this book.The colour-coding is based on index and it also corresponds with appropriate markings on the front map.As the title says - it's about Top 10. So 10 overall best attractions of the whole area. Then 10 best everything - museums, sport attractions, children areas, restaurants etc. Then it's Top 10 area by area, and finally a street-smart guide.The book is accompanied by a series of maps. The front ones are showing the whole of Miami and the Keys, with basic links to pages where you can find information about highlighted areas. The back cover maps are more detailed and larger, with the main map detachable from the guide.The information depends on the part of the guide you're in. The main best selected attractions will have a bit more text, the lesser ones will just get mentioned as worth seeing.I really like the street-smart area, where you get the travel-savvy tips about local habits, currency, handy websites and email addresses etc. It's a must know for anyone wanting to explore the place without the help of the locals.As mentioned, this guide is slightly larger than the other ones I have, but still pocket size and more colorful. The price of just over £7 is great. The Internet is normally my source of information for areas, but it's so littered with junk, I often find it hard to separate the useful stuff from gossip, or even misleading tips. Guides like this are the best bet - they're reliable, handy and portable. 5 stars from me.Thank you for reading my review. I hope you found it helpful.

This is a handy little guide for a shot break or pre or post cruise stop in Miami. It isn't detailed but the listings of things to do are extensive even if they don't provide much information to whet the appetite. There is small amount of information on the Keys. If you are staying more than a few days I think you'll want a more detailed guide.

This 160-page guide is eminently pocketable, weighing just 230g and measuring about 190 x 100 x 11 mm. Even as someone who has spent a lot of time in Miami, I’ve loved browsing the book and have learned a lot.Miami is a fascinating place, different from any other city I’ve visited. This guide will leave you itching to visit. Give yourself several days in Miami, if possible, and another few if you want to get out of town and along the Keys. The book is up to the usual DK standard, with superb illustrations and a detailed pull-out map with street index. The general content and layout are what you’d expect, if you have other DK Top 10 guides. It starts with ‘Top 10 highlights’, offering 1-4 pages dedicated to each highlight. Next, ‘Top 10 of Everything’, where ‘everything’ comprises features such as historic sites, museums, parks and gardens, beaches, off the beaten path, children’s attractions and much more. Then there’s ‘Area by Area’, and finally Streetsmart with lots of practical information.The book certainly deserves a very strong recommendation. I’d probably supplement it with Lonely Plant, Rough Guide or similar for more detail on things like accommodation and dining, opening hours and entrance charges. But LP and RG aren’t really pocketable, which is where this comes in. I’m looking forward to my next trip to Miami, in December, more than ever.

Good little travel guides that packs in a lot of useful information despite its small size. Four stars.

I’ve yet to find a better travel guide book than the DK Top 10 and this one doesn’t let you down. Filled to the brim with not only Top 10s but so many tips on both the tourist hot spots as well as other lesser known places to add to your bucket list. Photos, descriptions, price ranges, maps and more! Plus a fold out map at the back. Highly, highly recommend.
