Versatile Copper Sulfate That Delivers Serious Results Alpha Chemicals’ Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate is one of those old-school, multipurpose compounds that still earns its place in the shed. The fine powder dissolves quickly and evenly, making it easy to mix for different applications — from controlling algae in pools and ponds to keeping tree roots from invading sewer lines or even for copper crystal-growing experiments. The resealable bag keeps it dry, and the brilliant blue color is unmistakable proof of its purity. Performance-wise, it works exactly as expected. Used in small doses, it clears stubborn algae blooms fast and can help sanitize water systems without staining or leaving residue when properly dissolved. It’s also a strong root deterrent when flushed down pipes in solution form. Because it’s highly concentrated (25.2 % elemental copper), a little goes a long way, and five pounds will last most homeowners years. It doesn’t come with detailed directions — Alpha sells it for many different uses — so you’ll need to look up the correct dilution rate for your purpose and handle it carefully with gloves and a mask. Avoid direct contact with aquatic life or over-application in natural ponds. Bottom line: A high-purity, easy-to-dissolve copper sulfate that’s powerful, economical, and effective for algae control, root prevention, and general maintenance. Treat it with respect, mix it right, and it’ll perform like a professional-grade product.

Worth the expense for septic systems.

Really like this stuff and seems to be working well. My main sewer line has a bad root problem, all 90' of it and would backup on a regular basis every three months. Since I have started using this, I haven't had to call for sewer service in 18 months. I know I will have to someday because I am certain it is not reaching the end of line where it turns into the city line (90ft away) where I have a really bad root problem next to a maple tree. I try and get 3 applications out of this 5 pound bag but I also mix it with other additives like foaming root killer (believe its a salt additive) and another foaming additive I get at menards cheap to make sure it climbs up onto the roots. Don't use this by itself, it won't reach roots, you absolutely need foaming additives. This concoction seems to be working really well for me. I have 4" pipe leading out of house into 6" clay for 80 ft or so back into a 4" at the street.

I know that this is not listed for Swimming Pool. I am writing this review because no other post were Saying you can use this in a Swimming Pool. It is the Same Active Chemical used in those little Yellow out and Green out Packages that you buy to Clear algae but less than half the cost and you get a lot more active ingredient. I did not plan on swimming in the Pool I brought back to Service for a while and until the PH Settles in at a Safe Level to Swim, So if you have a Severe Algae Problem such as I had, I highly recommend buying this and Sprinkling it around the Pool with Algae problems. Follow up with a couple of Pool Shock Chlorine Bags. The Day after you do that, you will See a Huge difference, and then as the Algae Dies and gets caught in your Pool Filter, Just Keep Cleaning the pump filter and you will be Good to Go and Swim in approx 1 Week. 1 A Week is a conservative estimate and it is based on me checking the PH Balance of my inground Pool each day until all algae were gone and the Chemicals were perfect level to Swim again! I hope this review helps other Swimming Pool Owners!
