Good textbook
There isn't much to say about a textbook such as this. I rented this book for my psychology of personality class because it was the required textbook and Amazon usually has better or similar prices to my school's prices. My class is an online class and we are allowed to use our books for the tests. If that is the case for you, it is a great idea to buy or rent this book in the e-book format. Buy it for your Kindle or Kindle app, and then when it is time to take your test, you can use the search function of your e-book to easily find the answers to your questions. Doing so ensured me that I never have to study and I made an easy A on every single test (as lazy as that is). I never buy actual textbooks for my online classes unless there is no e-book, because e-books make test-taking so much easier. Another pro of getting an e-book over the actual book is that you can highlight and take notes in this book just like you could a regular textbook. Also, you don't have this book junking up your bookshelf when you're finished with your class. If you rent it, you only have to pay for the amount of time for which you rent it, so that to me was a better deal than buying it. I have no use for these books once my classes end.As for the content of this book, it is quite thorough. It is detailed and gives a lot of information about each theorist that it covers as well as a lot of information on each theory. It also provides biographical background information on each theorist which I found a bit interesting. I had a strange childhood so I like learning about other people's upbringings and problems. This book is written in terms that make it easy for a college student to understand and it isn't as boring as a lot of psychology books I have read. The way it's set up makes it easy to find whatever you're looking for.

Great text for students
This text is VERY detailed. It starts out with a detailed overview of what a theory is and what constitutes a good one. Then each of the personality theories are described in detail, including a biography of the theorist, then the theories are graded based on a scale of what makes a good, functioning theory. It is smaller than a regular-sized textbook, but the print is not too small to make a challenging read for a 40-something student like me. Somehow, the reading seems to go really fast for me. It is written in plain, common speech, with bold-type key words and other important terms and ideas are italicized. There is a breakdown of key elements of the theory at the end of each chapter, and photos, charts, illustrations, etc. throughout the book.

Underestimate their description of condition
The text is a great text. But the listing as " good" condition....not really. It has been written all over, highlighted in blue which is difficult to read through, torn cover... I would have called the condition " fair."

Important to learn when studying theories within psychology.
Post-Freudian theories are a corner stone of the understanding of the construct of psychology.

A lot of text and a rough lay out, but still a good required text book
Not great but not awful. I wasn't a fan of how this text book was laid out. It made it difficult to refer back to and there was a LOT of verbiage within each chapter. I felt like a lot of it could have been left out.

Worth every penny
I wish I had been able to find a used copy of this book so that I hadn't had to pay such a fortune for it. Before I started studying it, I was extremely upset for spending all that money. Now, however, I know it is worth every penny. The authors are skillful writers whomanaged to make a theoretical subject not boring at all. In addition, they provided a good amount of information about the lives of each psychologist to help us better understand his/ her theory. I also liked the writing style itself: concise and easy to understand.

You don't have a choice, rent the book and be done with it.
It is difficult to get more dry than this book is.Whatever, it is a text book so that is expected.Rent it. Not that you have a choice, you need it for class so stop looking over reviews and get to work.

great textbook
I had to get this book for a class I was taking in undergrad and it was a great read. You learn about popular theorists and it is very detailed. Sadly I rented it and wished I had bought it because we didn't go through every theorist. But I actually liked to pick up this book to read which I can't say for many other textbooks I've had that professors didn't even use.
