Q: I can't tell from the pictures: Are there 2 sides- one flat and one for searing? is there more than one plate? plates removable? Can it be immersed?

The plate only has one side that has a section for grilling and a section for searing. It does not come with more plates. The plate is removable. It can be washed with soap and water, but is not recommended to be immersed.

Q: Do you get that charbroiled grill taste when grilling meat? My friend has a Wolfgang Puck grill (more money) and the stuff has that grill taste.

Actually the food tastes almost as good but not quite as good as a charbroiled grill.

Q: Did anyone get a recipe book also with temperature control instructions

the Manual that comes with the grill isn’t very helpful... go to the manufacturers website and look at the video for this specific unit and you can see how to operate the temp and time. It’s more helpful than any written explanation.
