steel quality/extremely impressive sharpening job for the price
high value hammer forged teacup kukri from Nepal. there are major benefits to this knife. the craftsmanship of this knife is not flawless but flaws do not hinder this knives functionality at all. the main obvious con for this knife is that the handle is too short. with a little bit of modification to the handle will make the handle more comfortable. the flaws that I have noticed in this knife are that the spine of the knife isn't completely straight and some of the soldering job on the brass isn't completely filled in, but in both case these are cosmetic flaws. the edge of the blade is straight and the brass ring is totally functional even though the soldering isnt perfect looking. the main plus to this knife beside the shape and weight of the blade is the steel quality and heat treatment of the steel and extremely well done sharpening job. I can not confirm that this carbon steel is 5160 but I would not be surprised if it is. there are not many companies that make small high carbon steel knives. compared to opinel for example you are getting more than 10x the amount of steel for the money and in my option this baby kukri has better quality steel and a more attractive blade shape. the steel quality, heat treatment, and sharpening and polishing job are outstanding for the price of this knife. the fitment of the brass piece between the wood handle and the blade has a very impressive almost custom fitment. have to remember someone actually made this brass ring by hammering a flat piece into a ring. this is not actually a full rat tail tang but instead a hidden rat tail tang. the rose wood is surprisingly hard wood almost like Ipe and with the quality fitment of the brass I am not worried at all that the handle will come loose without abusing the knife handle with a metal hammer. the quality fitment of brass is so good that I am not worried that water can get under the brass! the sheath is more or less of traditional build style leather over wood. I was surprised to see that the frog on the sheath is actually detachable like larger kukris! the one disappointment about the sheath is that I have noticed that the sheath has begun to leave a scratch on both sides of the blade, so if you want to keep the knife super shiny it might be better to not use the sheath at all or modify it a little. all the things that could make this knife "better" would make the knife cost a lot more but would barely make it more functional. only things I would change would be to make it with a longer handle and full rat tail tang and shine the blade a bit more. I assume they deliberately made this knife with a short handle to keep the traditional blade to handle ratio because they expect this knife to looked at more than used. I was a little bit apprehensive about buying this brand after researching a lot of different kukri brands from Nepal but after seeing the quality of the steel, heat treatment and sharpening job I trust this brand to make real kukris instead of just a wall hanger or letter opener. Note to GK&CO. the one thing that comes to mind that would make this kukri top-tier and collectable would be if you allowed your blade smiths to stamp a letter or initials on the blade or spine of the blade so customers could track who personally had made it.

Rat tail tang......
Pretty little knife and sheath, well made. Great utility knife. Just enough weight for some light chopping. Came sharp.. Obviously, rat tail tang, not full tang, so one star deducted. Other items from this seller also have incorrect descriptions of items.
