Why do you need to change the bottle every 3 months?

Inhalation of water contaminated by microbes can cause serious, life-threatening illness, especially since certain nasal sinuses come into close proximity with the eyes and brain. While it's possible to clean the inside of the bottle and nozzle using soap & water, or a dishwasher, it would be almost impossible to remove every last microbe. In the short term, having a few microbes is safe & acceptable. In the long run, a biofilm of hard-to-remove bacteria could begin to grow in parts of the nozzle or bottle which resist removal using standard cleaning methods (soapy water/dishwasher). Some of these microbes would still be safe to inhale, whereas others may cause illness. Eventually, while squeazing the bottle, you might dislodge a part of the biofilm from an insufficiently cleaned bottle, and this would then be jetted into your nasal cavity where they could cause a serious infection of the cavity and/or sinuses that sit in close proximity to the eyes and brain. While certain people's 3-month-old bottle may still be safe to use, there's no way of telling which peoples bottle is turning into a health hazard (without analysis of the bottle in a lab). Indeed, many users may be cleaning and sanitising the bottle very effectively, using microwaves and sterilising fluids, but even with this care, there will no doubt be undetected cases where a bottle does start to harbour dangerous microbes (inspite of the users best efforts and confidence in their cleaning skills). Changing it every 3 months, even if regular washing and sanitising of the bottle takes place, provides an additional safety margin to prevent ill health. And, because these bottles are recommended by doctors and health care practitioners to patients, there must also be a recognition that not all patients will be capable of cleaning the bottle thoroughly, or know that you shouldn't wash it with your dirty, tuna-covered dinner plates in the sink. Some may not even be aware of the dangers of an improperly cleaned sinus rinse device. Binning or recycling a bottle after 3 months may seem wasteful. However, I'd argue that when it comes to devices used for medical purposes (and a relatively invasive one, squrting water up your nose towards your sinuses), the consequences of a contaminated bottle could be severe. I believe personally that it is acceptable and desirable to opt for disposable devices in these limited situations. In situations where there aren't the same hazards of ill health, I believe it's perfectly reasonable and desirable to opt for infinitely reusable products (for example, reusable straws and reusable coffee cups). In those cases, saving money and not being wasteful are the priority. Especially when your using the sinus rinse on an ill, elderly or vulnerable person, someone who trusts that you're doing the best you can for their health, I'd want to take every precaution necessary to avoid making them even more unwell and watching them suffer because I didn't want to replace the bottle periodically.

Can I boil tap water in kettle then use that when it's lukewarm?

You can use Tap water  it should be boiled for 3 min. I use my ninja multi cooker to pressure cook tap water for 3 min. This ensures all organisms are dead.

There is no expiry date? How should  I know if i can still use it?

The expiration date is on the box, very bottom. Mine is 2026

What is the bottle made of? need to know if it's polyethylene (pe) or not and can take 100 degrees celsius - want to put it in a bottle warmer.

It doesn’t say but I would say it’s PE, if you put boiling water in it it goes very soft, best to let it cool down for ten minutes.
