Very impressed so far
Only a few days in, but I'm very happy with this watch. The case is substantial, it's easy to read the high contrast dial, and the crystal is glass, not plastic. I even like the machining grooves on the sides of the case. They also engraved the battery size and lug width on the back cover - first time I've seen that. I expect the fancy stitched leather band to wear out fairly fast, but in the meantime it looks great. Timex proves the power of mass production and good QC to make a watch this good at such a low price.

Quiet competence and quality
Unlike many of its Expedition brethren, the T47012 is QUIET. Whether you're camping out or just couch surfing, this timepiece provides Indiglo performance without a distractingly loud accompaniment. The brass case inspires more confidence in the stated 50m of water resistance than the resin cases of more recent versions. The leather band is nicely supple, immediately comfortable, and of better overall quality than you might expect at this price point. My one minor caveat is that while the wave pattern dial looks fantastic in normal light (one of the main reasons I chose this model), it interferes with the timekeeping legibility just a tad in Indiglo mode. Otherwise, I think this is the best Expedition in this price range, providing great value, quality, and performance.

Nice watch, band is a little small.
It's a beautiful watch. Sleek and simple. The light up face is kinda cool. However, if you are a big guy like me you might have a hard time with the band. I was only able to use the first notch. Apparently it's meant for men with skinny wrists.

Great Watch but dial smaller than expected. Same size as a Timex Easy Reader.
This review mainly serves as a reminder for people who may not look close enough before they place the order. This watch is a good watch and I receive a well-made product. Very comfortbale on wrist. Looks great. Very good value for its price. I am kind of a Timex fan, owning a few Timex watches for quite some years. One was bought in 2001 and just started not working last year. This Expedition's quality is just like all other Timex watches I own: care free, well-built for its price, and long lasting, which I believe this one will also be. The reason I am buying this Expedition is I need a field watch that is big enough. The spec of this Expedition is listed as 40mm case diameter and I thought that should be big enough. Turns out the dial looks quite small when you have it on your wrist. The photo is a comparison between Timex Easy Reader (35mm case diameter) and this Expedition (40mm case diameter). You can see their dial diameter are pretty much the same. After measuring it is around 30mm-31mm. The Arabic numerals on the Expedition actually are smaller than the Easy Reader. Well I guess that's why they name it the Easy Reader. All in all, this Expedition looks and reads time smaller than your typical 40mm watch. Mostly it is becasue the bezel/frame takes out quite some real estate of the 40mm diameter which I didn't pay attention to when I ordered.

nice looking watch
Great price and very nice looking watch. I haven't worn a watch for some time and decided that I wanted to wear one again. I prefer the analog look to the digital look. I really like it!

Timex Expedition watch
This is a great watch... It looks good, keeps perfect time as Timex is known for and I wear it almost everyday... It is actually 39mm which makes it just right.

Battery replacement not for the faint-of-heart
I bought one of these watches in 2024. Replaced the band with an OD green military style one, and it was a close ringer for a beloved watch that sadly died about 10 years ago. This Timex watch stopped working after one year of use, so I set about to taking it apart to replace the battery. Be advised that the back is not easy to separate from the case, with a very small pry point to insert a very thin crewdriver tip. A considerable amount of force is necessary to pop the back off, which is a stainless steel compression fit with no "O" ring - just a precision metal-to-metal fit. Once separated, it took a few seconds to replace the CR2016 battery, then about 40 minutes of fussing and fighting to get the back re-seated on the watch. This procedure was not for the faint-of-heart. I tried squeezing the back onto the watch to no avail. Then, lightly tapping the back of the watch with a small weighted mallet with a plastic head. No go. On the point of giving up, I put a microfiber towel on the floor, set the watch face-down on the towel, then put a small piece of 2 x 4 lumber on the back. I figured that the back might be re-seated by applying firm, heavy and uniform pressure across the entire surface, so I balanced my entire 250-lb. frame on the wood, then heard the "pop" of the back re-seating. Easy, huh? I was surprised I didn't hear a "crunch" of the watch crystal breaking, so thumbs up to Timex for making a watch that can bear up to this kind of treatment. So, if you don't mind tackling a bit of a challenge when it's time to replace the battery - or - are a person who just throws the watch away when it dies and buys a new one - then this may be the watch for you! Thumbs up for a sturdy, good-looking military style watch. Thumbs definitely down for a watch that needs a 250-lb. balancing act to re-seat the back after battery replacement.

Beautiful field watch. The band takes few days to be soften. I have one complain that it arrives me by outer box broken and the watch is open and exposed. But it reaches me without any damage.

You decide to go glamping. Camping with comfort. Since you are not twenty years old anymore and are finished sleeping on roots and rocks in a crappy tent half dead from alcohol poisoning. You rent a motorhome. One with all the hookups for electrics and plumbing, LED TV and lighting and a full kitchen. Hot water shower and an awesome bedroom. You have your site booked in Nova Scotia, ocean front and all the amenities. You pack all your clothes, hoodies, lumberjack shirts and camo pants and all. Now to pick a wristwatch. You settle on the Timex T40051 Expedition. Metal case, mineral glass (recessed) and a really fun dial with some color and pop. It has elements of traditional field watches. Not such a big case size (40mm) and 24 hour markers with a plain easy to read dial and photo luminescent hands and numbers. No usual Timex Indiglo light, but the lume will do just fine. It seems just the perfect style. Rugged and water resistant, fun colors and easy to read and stylish enough to wear while the barbeque cooks up something amazing for dinner. The genuine leather strap is comfortable and really well made. It keeps really good time, spot on with your cell phone, though you are mostly wearing it for fashion since you are on vacation. Goodbye deadlines!
