Incredibly wide scope
The book itself is large, heavy and of good quality. Not a fan of the type and color of the lettering—too light. It’s usually only one image for every artist, but the photo depictions are good and clear. It’s a massive amount of work of generally good quality and quite varied. It’s a little more of a reference book then I would like—I would probably like less artists, more work per artist. So it’s a little frustrating, but informative and inspiring. It’s worth the $80.

Worth It's Weight in Gold...
Love this text. The font was not an issue for me - it's kind of a Lucida Console style -in a gray or low opacity. I did not find it difficult to see, nor did I think the content was difficult to read. I feel this is a well worded text, true to the prevalent topics in art, and full of amazing photos. And yes, I mean it is worth it's weight in Gold…I carried mine everywhere with me while on a trip in Chicago:)

Another "comprehensive" art book where male artists outnumber female artists 5 to 1
There is some wonderful art in this book and hundreds of photographs. But in a 2009 publication about sculpture TODAY, why are there five times as many men represented than women? Really, we need two images of Damien Hirst's and Jeff Koons' work and none of Ana Mendiata, Lee Bontecou, or Yayoi Kusama? How about sculptors of any gender from Africa or South America?

Finally a Comprehensive Collection of Recent Sculpture
A strong and satisfying overview of the last 20 years of sculptors' work, although many of these sculptors have been working for a lifetime. We all agree the text is unnecessarily difficult to read because of the grey color, use of American Typewriterfor the typeface, and the 10 or 11 point type size.Given how hard the designers seemed to work to make it a difficult read, the text itself is a balance of accessibility, and sophistication so the reader isn't also trying to decipher 'artspeak'. The writing is clear, concise, and edited for substance. I've bought this book for a few of my students, and now consider requiring it for my college classes. I, too, hope there will be a "Sculpture Today II." It's a luxury to have a book completely dedicated to sculpture, rather than having a few tired and token sculptures sprinkled in amongst the paintings in most surveys.Only one other hope: that the next edition will have an index! The divisions into process, or content are interesting, but one must rifle through the entire book to find an artist. Still worth every penny.
