Scotch Brand Heavy Duty Shipping Packaging Tape, 1 Roll with Dispenser, 1.88" x 22.2 Yards, 1.5" Core, Great for Packing, Shipping & Moving, Clear (142)

I bought this shipping/packaging 3M Scotch 1.88 inch wide "Heavy Duty" tape roll/dispenser combination in 2013. I don't ship much from home so I did not need much. Back then I believe I received 15 yards(45 feet/540 inches) of tape which is less than the 800 inches( 66.6 feet/ 22.2 yards) sold now. This small roll of tape was usually very useful when I had to ship(return) stuff back to Amazon(tape up the Amazon boxes and attach labels printed on a printer). I don't have a large size tape dispenser/"gun" at home so this combination is very useful. I also used it in 2013 when I had to move for several months to a location more than 1,000 miles away, I taped up boxes of things/stuff I would need and put them in the back of an SUV and drove that distance on all types of roads, when I got to my location all the boxes were still sealed(some were difficult to re-open with the tools I had then where I had used several layers of this tape). I actually forgot the roll of this tape I bought on Amazon at home so I went to a store and bought another one(same kind) and then used it to pack for the return trip. Some of the boxes I had taped up in 2013 are now in storage so this tape has held up for that long. Amazon's own custom made tape usually dries up and detaches from boxes after several months. I have used cheaply made shipping/packaging tape before, my 2 jobs where I had to pack and tape something both had cheap thin tape which did not stick right to the surface or ripped(disintegrated) easily. I at times wondered whether I was doing something wrong, the bosses got angry when I used "too much" tape because I did not feel that cheap tape would hold together. Scotch's "Heavy Duty" tape does not look or feel cheap, also being "Made in the USA" you know the company is not cutting corners(intentionally reducing quality and outsourcing) to "maximize profits and dividends" like so many other companies who now sell junk. Both of my rolls ran out of tape this year(2015) after very infrequent use. So if you use this kind of tape every day this is not for you. I looked for "refill" tape and this is the only one I could find: Scotch DP-1000RF6 Packaging Tape, 1.88 Inches x 900 Inches (6-Pack) I needed shipping tape to return some items to Amazon and was not ready to wait "2 to 4 weeks" so I bought a larger roll/dispenser of Scotch's "Sure Start" tape which will allow me to use larger 54.6 yard "standard" rolls in the future. Update 10/5/15 I was able to use the refill tape in the link above in the dispensers for this tape.

This is the original Scotch Heavy Duty Packaging Tape with a smaller plastic red dispenser. This roll of tape is a smaller sized roll and comes with the dispenser. For me, it works great for In the office, when you may not have much room for a big roll of tape and that big metal dispenser that we see in the post office or shipping stores. I don't like that you have to buy this smaller tape and dispenser together and that the smaller tapes are not for purchase by themselves, as it seems wasteful to through away the dispenser when the 800 inches roll is done. The dispenser has a metal cutting edge on it that is not covered in any way. I would not let a child work with this packing tape dispenser as I can see a child cutting herself with this metal cutting strip. Also, the tape is marked "heavy duty," and the tape is good packaging tape and clearly does the job, but there really is nothing extra heavy duty about the tape. There are not extra strapping strips in the tape. For us, this works, but if you are someone that needs to use packaging tape every day, then get the larger dispenser and tape rolls are for you. But for the occasionally packaging taping, this will work just fine.

I spent way too much time on Amazon trying to determine which refill package was the best bang for the dollar. I gave up when I saw these as add-on items for less than 3 bucks for two. Don't know why I struggled with making a decision to buy the larger quantity refills, but I gave up. Bit the bullet for adding these to the cart and they are perfect, length is what I expected, and the heavy duty quality is there. One issue I did have is that I own the strapper itself, but did not want to buy more plastic strappers that will just end up getting recycled. Amazon should really consider adding the cost for foot on products that are sold under different sellers sites or their own. Don't know really what I paid per foot on this, but like I said, as an add-on, it was a no-brainer.

Strong, reliable adhesive. Having tried numerous generic brands for my shipping needs—specifically for outdoor supplies—I have found that this tape offers superior, heavy-duty performance. It is noticeably thicker and stronger than budget alternatives, providing excellent peace of mind when sealing high-quality cardboard boxes. Pros: 1. Excellent, heavy-duty strength that adheres instantly and securely to standard cardboard and packing materials. 2. The tape is thick and resistant to splitting, making it ideal for shipping heavier items. 3. The simple and efficient dispenser that holds the roll securely and keeps fingers away from the sharp, serrated cutting edge. Cons: 1. While it adheres wonderfully to cardboard, it tends to get a little loose on soft bags, poly mailers, or other flexible packaging materials. Overall, I highly recommend this tape for heavy-duty box sealing, A solid 8 out of 10.

I've tried generic brands, Scotch mailing tape, and most recently a packing tape by OfficeMax. The Scotch Heavy Duty is thicker than any other plastic tape I have used. In some ways I appreciate the thin, generic tapes, because their thinness allows them to adhere to the package more securely. But they are not very strong. The roll of Scotch mailing tape was thick but did not adhere as well as I would have liked. The OfficeMax tape is fine. This Heavy Duty tape is sturdier than all the rest, though, and it sticks very well. This makes it ideal for heavy boxes, particularly for storage, but not as good as paper tape for shipping heavy boxes. The dispenser is well-designed, as long as you keep your fingers away from the cutting edge. The serrated edge cuts the tape easily, and there are two plastic hooks that catch the end of your tape, so it neither sticks to itself or to the blade. This works better on the Scotch dispenser than on other brands I have experienced. The dispenser works fine for dragging the tape across the top of a box, but all this extra plastic does seem wasteful, and the rolls with the dispensers are not very big. If you're moving, you will probably be better off with the larger rolls without dispenser.

I had packages I needed to send out this tape was the greatest cutting ability was awesome and the stickiness was great. Good tape.

La cinta es de un material muy grueso y resistente a la fuerza de estiramiento, es un util tambien que se pueda cortar con el cortador incluido. Ya lo probé con papel (bond y opalina) y plástico (polipapel, o nylon) es muy resistente, pero por ejemplo con otros tipos de materiales como cartón o algunos con texturas irregulares, esta cinta no agarra, asi que dependiendo del uso que se le vaya a dar es un buen maskin o no.

This is superb packaging tape. I've always used scotch brown tape but since discovering this whilst in America I've now swapped over, although pricier it is in my opinion worth it. It comes on a handy little dispenser and it slices off lovely, it's so easy to use I even managed it one handed while wrapping a parcel. The tape is thick without being cumbersome and when applied looks great. It's neat and very strong. Love this stuff.
