Delicious & Nutritious & a S&P Necessity!
If you're into Survival & Preparedness, it's almost a necessity that you have some Augason Farms or Mountain House foods in your survival/"food preps" ... both are incredibly expensive ... except Augason Farms has great sales several times year ... when they do, STOCK UP! These freeze-dried foods last - according to the label- for "25 Years" when unopened & gently stored, and most people agree they would last much longer ... and in this particular case, Potatoes happen to be a food you can last for A LONG TIME in an emergency ... by the time of the mid-1800s Great Irish Famine (or 'Potato Famine') , a hugely significant percentage of the Irish population was subsistent on *strictly Potatoes* - all day, every day - like, Breakfast, Lunch, & Dinner, - because it was all they had - BUT ... it kept them alive and with minimal health problems ... and if you were able to add some Buttermilk to pour over the potatoes / cook them with, it made the meal nutritionally complete and you could not just live, but be relatively healthful , on just potatoes [and some buttermilk] ... this is a great product at a great GREAT PRICE [sometimes] and will last you forever, unopened. And who doesn't like them some Hash Browns / Home Fries etc. So many ways you can dress them up!

Inexpensive and good tasting.
I've been stocking up on Augason Farms canned foods for a while and I usually get an extra can to try out before I continue to stock up. These shredded potatoes are great. They rehydrate very quickly and make great hash browns by themselves with a little seasoning or in a casserole which I tried. After rehydrating I really couldn't tell that they were previously freeze dried. Potatoes are very filling and these cans are very inexpensive so I consider them a staple in any emergency food supply. These do not come sealed in pouches inside of the can like some of the other Augason Farms canned products but that's not a problem in my opinion. These are the kind of thing I'd expect to use the whole can at once. Toss a little butter or oil and salt and pepper on these and you have great hash browns for a small group of people. Easy to prepare and serve, and a great value!

Not as easy to prepare at high altitude.
They taste and look great, just like fresh potato once they're re-hydrated. You may have to remove some dark non-edible pieces. It took 2 hours to prepare these at 8200'. They re-hydrated quickly enough and tasted just like fresh raw potato. Then it just seemed to take forever to cook them enough to eat. Making hash browns with them was a complete bust. . Making lumpy mashed potatoes which we enjoy, they were delicious. They were light and fluffy after taking 2 hours to prepare them using a low heat after trying to make hash browns out of them didn't work on high heat and I'm using a commercial gas stove with burners that really put out. . For re-hydrated hash browns- not recommended at all at my altitude. Perhaps that's they're accurately called potato shreds. Definitely correctly called survival food and not convenient to prepare, but great in a pinch.

Good flavor, fairly easy to prepare.
Long shelf life unopened. Fairly easy to prepare, I'm having trouble getting them soft enough. Will keep at it as they are so handy. Love Aguson Farms foods.

Rehydrates well with full flavor
I don't eat a lot of starchy vegetables. Every now and then I want a little in various applications. These hydrate well, right in the soups and stews. I also hydrate them in veggie stock to make patties. They best part is that they are shelf stable. Once hydrated, they are ready to be used as you would use fresh.

Convenient Potato Shreds With Good Storage Life
These dehydrated potato shreds are a handy item to keep on hand for food storage or emergency preparedness. They rehydrate easily and work well for hash browns, casseroles, or breakfast dishes. The flavor and texture are better than expected once prepared according to the directions. They’re simple to use, and a little goes a long way. I like that they store well and don’t take up much space. Like most dehydrated foods, they’re best used as part of prepared meals rather than eaten alone, but they’re versatile and reliable. Overall, a solid option for long-term food storage or emergency supplies.

Great to have on hand and tastes better than I expected
I'm very impressed! Every bit as good as the frozen shreds from the store, it crisps up nicely on a skillet after reconstituting. If you rehydrate the entire can like I did you end up with a lot! I mean tons! This is an excellent value and I love that it can sit on the shelf for years until needed. Fresh is always best obviously but the next time there's a storm in the forecast and hordes of people are panic buying at the grocery store I'll just relax at home and have a nice breakfast. Not only is this stuff a great addition to the emergency pantry but from now on I'll probably use it instead of the frozen whenever I'm in the mood for hashbrowns. Just an excellent product.

Excellent Tasting Hash Browns
These are excellent for Hash Browns. I have been using Hungry Jacks in the little carton for years, or the Idohan ones, and since moving to Australia, they are not available here. I actually like the taste better, by adding onion powder, seasoned salt and pepper to our own taste. If you want even cooking and browning, I use about peanut oil. It is much crisper and clean tasting. For 2 people, about 3/4 to 1 cup of shreds are plenty once hydrated. I only soaked them in hot tap water for about 10 to 15 minutes, drain excess water off and they came out perfect.

Dented tin
Unfortunately 1 of the tins was dented, other than that all ok.
