This medicine killed my fish in less than 48 hours
I wish I had listened to everyone else’s reviews saying not to get this. My poor betta’s fins were not repairing on their own and I realised that it was fin rot. I received this yesterday and he had only had two doses in the tank. I found him dead this evening. I can’t stop crying as I feel so angry. This could have been prevented and he shouldn’t have died this way. I was meticulous with the doses and was so careful to give the right amount and did water tests and everything. This was not my fault. I cannot begin to explain how disgusted and awful I am feeling right now. Rip Kirby. I love you lil guy.

Awesome product BUT SUPER IMPORTANT TIP WHEN USING THIS
So there are a few horror stories about Melafix in these reviews. I disagree & think his stuff is an absolute life saver. I use it daily if & when I need to treat something (brought some fish that had fungus!) or every water change I throw a load in. Its 100% natural so you are not adding loads of chemicals to your tank & its very effective.SO -HERE's THE IMPORTANT PART & maybe why a few peoples fishies passed on over to the rainbow lake after using this. Adding Melafix to your tank will deplete the oxygen levels slightly. When you add this to the tank it foams & bubbles up in the water.I'm not 100% why or how BUT it depletes the oxygen in the tank SO when you add this to your tank crank up the air pump- I'm quite sure a lot of the fish casualties were probably because of this or treating the tank too late.Easy solution add at every water change proactively & number 2- add a LOT of air for a good few hours afterwards

Killed 11 Fish in 48 Hours! Livid! DO NOT BUY
I carefully measured the dose, even had it checked by a family member to make sure i hadnt misread anything and i was 100% correct with the treatment to water ratio.I bought this to assist in treatment for fin repairin 48 hours it killed1x Gourami6x Harlequin Rasbora4x Male GuppyIt completely wiped my tank out. The fish slowly lost their buoyancy and their ability to swim upright and appeared to be gasping for oxegen and paralysed, their eyes then glazed over and they sank to the bottom of the tank. All of my fish were young and healthy and had no illnesses prior to use. The treatment was simply introduced for fin repair.Luckily i have a seperate fry tank with baby guppies that will restock some of my tank once they are big enough but im beyond disgusted at this product.

Very safe for plecos, cured fin rot
I purchased this for a long -fin bristle-nose pleco suffering from fin rot. I was very reluctant to use it as I have heard some horror stories about melafix, but decided to give it a go, starting at a lower dose and gradually increasing to the recommended dose to check if it was stressing my fish.I had no issues at all with this, and my plecos fins are now growing back. In fact, I now dose this as the first sign of any trouble in my aquarium as it seems quite harmless, and can treat a spectrum of other conditions in addition to finrot. I also have zebra danio, neon tetras and white cloud mountain minnows in my aquarium. The UV filter needs to be switched off before use. Melafix also causes the surface of the water to foam for a short while after adding it to the tank. I wonder if this is why some people have had issues using this with a betta or other labyrinth fish, as they breath air from the surface of the water. I wouldn't use this with a betta because of the foam it produces.I test my water weekly and I can confirm that this has had no impact at all on the water parameters at all and does not kill beneficial bacteria as I have never seen ammonia or nitrite above 0, even when using this.

Very useful when used in appropriate situations
It's no wonder cure, but it is very gentle on your aquarium ecosystem while helping to prevent infection of open wounds.I would never recommend suing it when not absolutely needed, but it causes less damage to your aquariums ecosystem than more synthetic chemicals malachite green or formaldehyde. It is based on tea tree oil, but from a specific strain/species of the tree contains something (a surfactant?) that prevents the oil just sitting on the surface on the the water where it would inhibit oxygen diffusion into the water and not come in to contact with fish wounds. There are recipes for DIY Melafix online that some people say are effective, but these would use a less effective (though much cheaper) type of tea tree oil and also be less effective and more damaging than actual Melafix. It may be expensive compared to mixing your own tea tree oil, but it is so much more effective and you should have to use it so infrequently that this should not matter.

MAY work,-all depends on circumstances, internal infections are notoriously hard to cure... .
I have used this for introducing new fish, and no problem. One of the fish developed a lump on the body and there appeared to be a break in the skin -- so assumed an injury ... so dosed this precisely for 7 days, the lump got smaller on the second day ... after 7 days it was still slightly there ... so after a 50 percent water change I continued dosing for a further 5 days and the abrasion disappeared and now the fish is doing fine. This was the only product I used so it must be down to this product that the fish survived. Lumps on the body often do not have a good outcome....UPDATE unfortunately the lump re-appeared a few weeks later, so decided to use this together with Pimafix also by api, UPDATE - after thirty days of treatment and seeming progress since last entry the one fish with a problem developed another lump at a different place so decided that this stuff will contain infection to an extent but in this case it clearly wasn't working completely so I despatched the fish humanely. These 2 meds are herbal, so expect slower results....Snails here still alive, no copper in this stuff. so it is harmless over long periods of dosing with partial water changes.
