Q: Is the medium a decent size?

Not really, more small than medium.

Q: How tall is the large elephant bank?

I'm not sure about the elephant bank, as I purchased the Large Lion. The Lion was approximately 7-8" tall, sturdy resin. Just the right size for my 1 yr old grandson to handle. It was more for him to learn to put coins in, more than to hold alot of money as he still puts things in his mouth. I wish I could be more specific on the sizes, but I do not have it here with me to measure. I am assuming that most of these resin banks are about the same size, and some could be slightly smaller.

Q: Can this be used as a cake topper?

I would say that it could be used a a topper. Then used as a bank afterwards. It is cute and not that big ... about 7 inches tall and about 4 inches wide at head and paws. It was given as my to-be-born (August 2021) grandson...1st bank. So feel free to experiment with this gorgeous little lion.

Q: Are the slot to insert coins and the hole to remove them large enough to accommodate Canadian one and two dollar coins?

Not sure as I do not know show large these coins are; however, a 1/2 dollar fits into the slot. Plus, these coins can certainly be put in at the bottom by removing the secure plug.
